MINUTES OF THE REGULA.R MEET Dm OF THE :BOARD
OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON THE 4th
DAY OF OCTOBER.. 1926.. AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON.. 4305 S.A1rI'A. FE AVENUE t VERNON, CALIFORNIA.
The meeting was called to order by the President,
3". J. Furlobg. at 8 Otclock~ P. M.
The Trustees present were: Leonis, Durbin and
Furlong.
The trustees absent weret Kniffin and Levy.
The minutes of the meetings of September 7, and
September 20, 1926, were read.
It wa.s moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin
that the minutes be a.pproved as read. Motion carried.
ORDINANCENo. 387: An ~inance for the va.cation of a. po.r-
tion of Indiana Street was read for third and final reading..
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
Ordinance No. 387 be adopted. Motion carried.
A communication from the Southern Pacific Company
regarding agreements submitted to the city in reference to
the fire and police alarm system under tracks at 52nd, 55th,
and 57th Streets was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
this matter be laid aver unti1 the meeting of the full
board. Motion carried.
An application from the Ruether- Packing Company for
a permit to construct a tank house was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be granted. Motion carried.
An application from the Cutler Selective Vending
Machine Company for a permit to conduct vending machines in
the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis
tat the same be denied. Motion carried.
A communication from the Maywood Chamber of Commerc~
requesting permission to place a four foot. square sign at
Leonis and Pacific :Bouleva.rds. was read.
It was moved by Leonis a.nd seconded by Durbin that
the same be referred to the Committee of the Whole. Motion
carried..
A. communication from the Hickey Pipe & Supply Com-
pany requesting to be relieved from the city license tax was
rea.d.
It was moved by Dur~in and seconded by Leonie that
the City Marsha11 be instructed to notify the Hickey Pipe ~
Supply Oompany that the City has no authority to handle this
matter. .otion carried.

ORDINANCE NO. 390: An Ordinance of Intent ion to close an
unnamed street lying north of the north line of 52nd street
and south of the south line of Fruitland Road was read for
first reading.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonie
that Ordinance No. 390 be passed for first reading. Motion
carried.
At this time the City Clerk presented an assess-
ment of the northwest Sewer District for the approval of the
Board, together with the diagram presented by the City
Engineer.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin tha.t
the same be laid over until the meeting on the 18th of
October, 1926.. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the Oi ty of Vernon Pfq the ne cessary expenses. of the Fire
Chief to the Fire Chief~s Convention at Fresno., not to
exceed the sum of Fifty Dollars ($50.00). Motion carried..
It Was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
t he City Engineer be instructed to make a report to the
Board on the storm drain of the City of Vernon. llotion
carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 46~: A Resolution permitting the City of
Huntington Park to improve a portion of Slauson Avenue, as
set forth in said Resolution was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
Reso~ution No. 467 be adopted. Motion carried..
At this time the City Attorney of the City of Maywoc
presented a request to the Board of Directors to assign all
of their interest in the Maywood Fire Department..
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonie that
the aame be referred to a Committee of One to a.scertain if
any assessment or taxes have been paid by the Central. JIan-
ufacturing District on said Fire Department.. )lotion aarried.
It was mov~{BY Leonis and seconded by Durbin
that the City Engineer complaint wherever it vms found that
the manufacturers of t e City of Vernon were using the sewer
in violation of the regulations of the City of Los Angeles
and the City of' Vernon, s.o that the same might be abated at
once. Motion carried.
An application of Nick Baule and lJIrs. Jessie Castillo
for a. restaurant license at 5710 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be referred to the Police Department for report.
Motion carried..
The report of the Police Department on the restauraY:t
applications of A. L. Harrison and Nick Hoffman were read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the requests be granted. Motion carried.

It was moved by Burbin and seconded by Leonis that

Demands on the General Fund in the sum of Four
Thousand Six Hundred Ninety-fi.ve and 85/100 Dollars ($4,695.85)
were read.
It was moved by Leonie and seconded by Durbin
that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn. notion

It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the meeting adjourn until the 11th of October, 1926 at
