MINUTES OF THE REGULAR llEETING OF THE BOARD
OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON THE 18th
DAY OF OCTOBER, 1926. AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON. 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VER1'1"ON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the President.
:r. d. Furlong~ at 8 o'clock P. 'M.
The 'I'rustees present were: La onis, Durbin and
Furlong.
The Trustees absent were: Kniffin and Levy.
I.t Via.s moved by La onis and seconded by Durbin th&
the minutes of the meetings of October 4 and October 11.,
1926. be 1aid over until the next regular meeting. Motion
carried.
At this time the City Clerk reported that. the time
and place set for the hearing of the protests on the improve-
ment of Slauson Avenue was October 11, 1926, a quorum not
being prese.nt, the meeting adjourned to this da.te, and that
no protests, either oral or written had been filed in his
office. The Chairman of the Board asked if there: was any
one present who had any objection to the improvement of
SlausonAvenue as contemplated in Resolution of Intention
No. 460, and received no response, 'INhereupon Trustee Durbin
introduced
RESOLUTION No. 466: a resolution ordering the work done.
and moved its adoplrion. which was seconded by Trustee Leonie
and carried..
The City Clerk at this time announced to the Board
that this was the time and place set for the hearing on the
Assessment District and for the confirmation of the North-
west Se\"fer District.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the same be laid over to the next regular meeting of the Board

A communication from the General Petroleum Corpora-
tion requesting the City of Vernon to transfer franchise
under Ordinance No. 152 to the General Petroleum Corpora.tion
of California was read.
It Was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the request be complied with. Motion carried.
The report of.:the POliceDepartruentop. thetestauralt
'~plic~tion of liick'13auleand .Tessie Ca.etillo was favorab1e
and the request that the permit be granted.
It wa.s moved. by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the request be granted. Motion carried.
A communication from the American Can Company. re-
questing that the City of Vernon a.ssist the Grinnell Company
with materials for the installa.tion of a sprinkling system
in their new building was read.

It was moved by Leonis filnd seco.nded by Durbin that
the same be referred to. the City Attorney as to whether the
City Was empowered to sell pipe, as requested in their
communication. Motion carried.
A communicatio.n from the Griffith Company~request-
ing a sixty day extension of time for the improvement of
Leonis :Boulevard, Was read.
It Was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the same be granted. Mo,tio.n carried.
A. co.mmunication. from the Municipal Art Commission
commending the City of Vernon on the artistic efforts o.f the
new municipal building was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be filed.. Motio.n carried..
A communication from the Mayor of the City of Los
Angeles commending the City of Vernon on the artistic effect
of the new municipal building and. grouuds was read.
It was moved by Leonie and seconded by Durbin that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 934: Of the Southern California. Utilities
Company~requesting an excavation permit to cross Santa Fe
Avenue on the north side of 55th Street with a water main was
read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be laid over until the next regular meeting.. Motion
~arried.
A communication from the Southern Pacific Railway
Company in reference to a drill tra.ct, wherein they stated
that they would build and construct a drill tract in the alley
between 37th and 38th Street, beginning at Roes Street
and running to the end of the alley, if the water pipe in said
alley was lowered to the regulation depth.
It was moved by Leonie and seco nded by Durbin that
the communica.tion be filed, and that the Public utilities
Corporation be notified to lower their pipes as requested,
and that the City ~lerk notify the Water Company to be pre.-
ent at the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and eeconded by Durbin that
a. fund of One . Hundred Dollars (I 100.00) be transferred
from the General Fund into a Fund known as Fire. Fund No. 2
to take care of some necessaries used in drilling the fire
department, to be drawn in the same manner as the other
fund. Motion Carried..
ORDIUANCE NO. 390: An Ordinance of Intention to close an
unnamed street lying north of thenorth line of 52nd Street
and south of the south line of Fruitland Road. ''las read for
second reading.
It was moved by Durbin and see onded by Leonis that
Ord.inance No. 390 be pa.ssed for second reading. Motion
ea.rried.

ORDINANCE NO. 390: An Ordinance of Intention to close an
unnamed street lying 'north of the north line of 52nd street
and south of the south line of Frui tla.nd Roa.d was> read for
third and final reading.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
Ordinance Na. 390 be adopted. Moti an carried.
The report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by La onis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin
that the City Engineer draw a description af the property
for the Cit~ Rall and that the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars
($20,OOO.00} be transferred frOJil the General Fund and the
Water Bond Fund to pay for same. Motion carried.

permit for storage shed. Approximate cost $350.00.

for the construction of foundry building for the American
Vanganes Steel Company. Approximate cost $10,000.00.
APPLICATION No. 977: By Union Iron Works for building permit
for the construction of factory building for the ~Veave.r Henry
Company. Approximate cost $1800.00.
APPLICATION No. 97a: By Union Iron Works for building permit
for fa.ctory building for the Ramp<> Ajax Company. Aprd'lximate
eost $19,500.0Q.
APPLICATION 110.. 979: By Southern California. Gas Company for
excavation permit to remove gas service on East side of Santa
Fe Avenue at intersection of 30th Street.
APPLICATION No. 980: By Southern California Gas Compa.,ny for
excavation permit for gas service at 3300 East Vernon Avenue"

Dermit to construct factory building. Approximate cost
$300.00.
APPLICATION No,. 982.: By General Petroleum Corpora..t ion for
sewer connect ion on Boyle Avenue north of 37th street.
APPLICATION NO. 983: By Luer Packing Company for building
permit to construct addition to present plant. Approximate
cost $35,000.00.
APPLICATION No,. 984: By E.. J. stantlon Company for building
permit to construct Load Storage shed. Approximate. cost

the construction of storage building for, California Com-
pressed Gas Company. Approximate cost $692.00.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion
carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for
reinforced concrete pipe trenches, together with iron
gratings for same, purl1p foundations, etc., in accordance
wi th plan Iro. 364 of said city. .Moti on carried.
Demands on the General ]'und in the sum of Seven
Thousand Eight Hundred T'Jllenty-four and 43/100 Dollars
($7824.43) were read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the demands be allowed and warrants drawn. Motion carried.
Demands on the Trust Fund in the sum of Six
Thousand 1Tine Hundred Ninety-three Dollars ($6993.00), (Of
which amount the sum of Six Thousand Nine Hundred Forty-four
Dollars ($6944.00) was transferred to the General Fund and
the balance paid out) were read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the demands be allowed and warrants drawn. Motion carried.
Demands on the '{later Construction Fund in the sum
of One Hundred Eighty-seven and 40/100 Dollars ($187.40)
were read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that

It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the meeting adjourn until the 19th of October, 1926, at
5 otclock P. M. Motion carried.
