The meeting was called to order by the President.
J. J. Furlong, at 8 otclock P. M.
The Trustees present were: Leonis, Durbin and Furlong.
The Trustees absent were: Levy and Kniffin.
It vias moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
minutes of the meetings of ]'ebruary 21, 23, :March 7 and 8,
1927, be ~aid over until the next regular meeting.
Motion ca.rried...
At this time the City Clerk announced that he had sealed
proposals on his desk that were laid over from the meeting of
March 7, 1927, unopened.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
City Clerk be instructed to open the bids. Motion ~arried.
The City Clerk reported that he had bids from the Eureka
Fire Hose Company, Pioneer Rubber Mills, and the American
Rubber Manufacturing Company. He read each and all of the
bids.
It WaS moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report
at the next regular meeting. Iviotion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that he bad two
b ids upon his desk for the improvement of E. 46th street,
same being laid over unopened from the meeting of March 7.

It wa.s moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
City Clerk be instructed to open the bids. Motion aarried~
The City Clerk then read the bids from the follaNing
firms: George R. Curtis Company and the L. A. Paving Company.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that all
bids be rejected, and that the checks be returned. Motion
carried.
The City Clerk at this time advised the Board tha.t this
wa.s the time and place fixed pursuant to statute and notice given
for the hearing in the matter of the assessment for the improvement
of Leonis Boulevard as contemplated by Resolution of Intention
No. U8, adopted on the 4th day of january, 1926.
The Clerk also informed the Board thc'1. t affidavit of the post-
ing of the Notice of filing assessment was on file in his office
and that no written appeals or ob.j ect ions had been filed in his
office prior to the day set for the hearing, or otheTIlise.

At this time the City Engineer announced that the work
was not as yet completed and requested that the same go over
until the next regular meeting.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be laid on the table until the next regular meeting.

OBDINAl:JCE NO. 399: An Ordinance granting to the Department of
'JIlater and Power of the City of Los Angeles a franchise to con-
struct and maintain an electric distributing line to be located
along the north side of E. 25th Street of the City of Vernon wa.s
read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the matter
be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion. carried.
A communication from C. C. Dunford, manager of the Inland
Fertilizer Company, requesting a permit to operate a fertilizer
plant in the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
A cormnunication from Thomas D. Fitzpatrick, requesting a
permit to operate a varnish plant on East 25th Street, 276 feet
from Downey Road, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
.same be filed. Motion c.arrie.d.
A communication from the Main street Athletic Club, request-
ing a permit to conduct boxing matches in Maier Park. was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
A communication from Austin Deltiemop, for a permit to oper-
aa a boarding house at 2101 Audr~y Street, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be referred to the Police Department. Motion c.arried.
A communication from '\Villiam 0 'Brien, et aI, for a permit
to operate a restaurant at 5300 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be referred to the Police Department. Motion c.arried.
A communication from J. F. Taylor, regarding repainting of
water tower was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Le onis t hat the same
be filed. Mot ion carried.
A communication from Frank Greene, for permission to sell
hosiery and shirts in the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
A communic.ation from the Southern California Utilities Com-
pany regarding their application for a permit to lay water line
across Santa Fe Avenue at 55th Street, was read.

It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
same be laid over until the next regular meeting and that the
City Clerk be instructed to notify said Company that the Board
desires a representative of said company to appear before the
Board at the next regular meeting on March 21, 1927, at 8 o'clook
P. M. Motion carried.
A connnunioation from M. P. Sullivan, for a permit to operate
a lunch room at 5710 Santa Fe Avenue was read..
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of the
City Engineer, were read:
APPLICATION No.. 1107: By Luer Packing Company for permit to
connect to sewer at 3026 East Vernon Avenue.
APPLICATION No. 1108: By Snyder Ashe Company for building penmit
to construct an office building at 5531 Downey Road. Approximate
cost $1200.00..
APPLICATION No.. 1109: By J"ohn Grant for building permit to construct
an office building at 2044 East Vernon Avenue. Approximate cost
$2100.00.
APPLICATION No. 1110~ By S. Gatow for building permit to construct
a factory building at 46th & Pacific Boulevard. Approximate cost
$11,000.00.
APPLICATION No.lll1: By the Pacific Coast Concrete PrQducts
CQmpany, fQr a building permit for the cQnstruction of kilns on
the northwest corner Qf 52nd street and Santa Fe Avenue. Approx-
in~te cost $2500.00.
APPLICATION NQ~ 1112.: By Ra.mon .A.lvarez., for building permit for
the construction of housing for mules. Approximate cost :$150.00.
APPLICATION No. 1113: By Ray L. Chesebro, for building permit
for the construction of Store buildings on Lot 14, Block 19,
of Huntington Park Extension No.1. Approximate cost $9,000.00.
APPLICATION No.. 1116: By Southern California Gas Company, for
excavation permit to repair service at nQrth side of 56th street
and Santa Fe Avenue.
APPLICATION No. 1117:. By Southern California Gas Company, for
excavation permit to repair service on south side of 52nd Street,
from east property line of Santa Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the
applications be filed and the permits granted.. Motion carried..
APPLICATION No. 1114: An application by the Consumers Rock and
Gravel Company, for a building permit for rock and sand bunkers,
Approximate cost. ;~4500.00, was read..
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the same
be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.

It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the

The report of the Police Department on the application
of John Walters, for a permit to sell candy and other
eatables on the streets of the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconaed by Durbin that the
report be filed and the permit denied. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department on the applica.tion
of '{lal ter B. Uhl to sell box lunches and other eatables in
the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Du rbin and see onded by Le onis that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department on general conditions
of the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
