TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VEmWN HELD ON THE 21st
DAY OF :MARCH, 1927, AT TIm CITY HALL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON~ 4305 S~UJTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORIUA.
The meeting was called to order by the President, ~. ~.
Furlong" at 8 0 t clock P. II.
The Trustees present were: Leonis, Durbin andFurlong.
The Trustees absent were: Levy and Knif~in.
The minutes of the meetings of February 21, 23, ]~ch
7,. 8 and 14th, 1927, were read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
minutes of February 21, 23, March 7, 8 and 14, be approved as
read. ]rIot i on carried.
The City Clerk at this time a.dv ised the Board that this
was the time and place fixed pursuant to statute and notice
given for the hearing in the matter of the assessment for the
improvement of Leonis Boulevard, as contemplated by Resolution
of Intention No. 418, adopted on the 4th ~ of ~anuary, 1926.
The Clerk also informed the Board tlmt affidavit of the
posting of the Notice of filing assessment was on file in his
office and that no written appeals or objections had been filed in
his office prior to the day set for the hearing, or otherwise.
The President of the Board then asked if there were any
interested persons present desiring to be heard in the ma.tter"
and no one responded. All interested persons having been given
full opportunity to show cause why the said assessment should not
be confirmed, all objections presented having been heard and fully
donsidered, and the Board having been satisfied with the correct-
ness of the assessment,
Thereupon Trustee Durbin moved that the assessment be con-
firmed and approved, which motion, seconded by Trustee Leonis,
was carried by the following vote:

Absent:
Leonis, Durbin and Furlong.
None.
Kniffin and Levy.
ORDnlANCE No. 399: An Ordinance grantirig a fra.nchise to the Depart-
ment of \i\fater & Power of the City of Los Angeles for the construction,
operation and maintenance of an electric distributing line to be lo-
cated along the north side of E. 25th Street of the City of Vernon
was read. .
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that Ordinance
No. 399 be laid over for a report from the City Engineer. Motion
carried.
A communication jfrom Hunsaker, Britt & Cosgrove, Attorneys,
in regard to the a.pplication of the Blue Diamond Company for an
excavation permit was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonisthat the com-
munication be filed, as the matter was in the hands of the City
Attorney of the ~ity of Vernon for report. Motion carried.

Bandini Baker Estate
of Lots 84 and 85 of
authorizing the City
It.. Resolution accepting the deed of the Arca.dia
Company to the City of Vernon, covering a portion
the Rancho Laguna, for street purposes, and
Clerk to record same, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that Resolution
No.. 484 be adopted. Motion earried.
At this time the City Clerk presented to the Board 8.., Surety
Bone of the L.os Angeles District Telegraph Company for approval..
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be filed. t!Gtion carried.
A communieation from the Inland Fertilizer Company requesting
a permit for the operation of a fertilizer plant to be located on Lot
10 of the John R. Taylor Vernon Avenue Villa. Lots was read.
It wa.s moved by Durbin and see onded by Leonis that the matter
be referred to the Committee of the \"Ihole. Motion earried.
A communication from the Empire Oil & Supply Company fer a.
permit to operate a gasoline and oil storage and distributing station
at 2418 East SOth Street was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the com-
munication befiled and the entire matter be referred to the Chief of
the Fire Department, and the City Engineer. Motion e arried.
An application from A. E. Gladding for a permit to operate.
a restaurant at 5710 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the same
be referred to the Police Department. Motion earried.
ORDINANCE No. 400. An Ordinance making it unlawful to appe.ar in a
public place in a state of drunkenness or intoxication was read far
first reading.
It was moved by Le onis E'.nd seconded by Durbin that Ordinance
No. 400 be passed for first reading. Motion earried..
RESOLUTION No. 485:: A Resolution approving a map of an assessment
District for the opening and extending of certain streets in said city
as described in Ordinance of Intention No. 401, was read.
It Wa..s moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that Resolu-
tion No. 485 be adopted. 1iotion carried..
ORDINANCE No. 401:: An Ordinance of Intention to open and layout cer-
tain streets in the City of Vernon was read for first reading.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that Ordi-
nance No.. 401 be passed for first reading.. Motion carried.
APPLICATION No. 1118:: By' the Union Packing Company for a tuilding
permit to construct a smoke house at 3030 East Vernon Avenue,
approximate cost $250.00, was read.
It wa.s moved by Durbin and seconded by Le nis that the same
be referred to the Fire Depa.rtment. Motion carried.

APPLICATION No. 1120:- By Patton & Davies Lumber Co for building
p~Z'mi tto construct shed at 26th & Boyle Avenue, appr~"'Cimate
cost $1500.00.
AJ?PLICATION No. ll2l.:- By the Qilf'ields Transportation Company
for a; building permit for the construction of Truck storage shed
at 5612 Boyle Avenue, a.pproximate cost :13700.00.
AJ?PLICA.TION No. 1122: By Irvin C. Miller for sewer connect ion
at 2222 East 38th Street..
APPLICATIOIil No. 11.23: By California Oregon Paper Company for
sewer connections at 2001 East 57th street.
APPLICATION No. 1124: By Southern California. Gas Company for a.
permit to lay gas main on East 49th Street.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
applicat ions be fil ed and the permit s granted. Motion c.'arried.
At this time the resignation of George Davis, City Fireman,
"vas read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
resignation be accepted. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the bids
of the Eureka Fire Hose Manufacturing Company and the American
Rubber Company be rejected and the checks returned. Motion
carried.
A connnunication from the Los Angeles Health Depa.rtment Was
read.
It wa.s moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be referred to the Health Department. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
bid of the Pioneer Rubber lUlls be referred to the Fire Commissicln
for investigation and report. Motion carried..
At this time a representative of the Southern California
Utilities Company a.ddressed the Board in reference to the lower-
ing of the pipe in that certain alley between 37th & 38th streets
in the City of Vernon..
It \ms moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
entire matter be laid over until March 28. the re.quest VIas made
that one of the executive officers of the Company be present
with the Board.. Motion carried..
The report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Le onis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be filed. Mot i on carried.
Demands on the General Fund in the sum of Seven ThOusand
Four Hundred Sixty-six and 01/100 Dollars ($7,4.66. Ol) were re~.

Forty-four Dollars were read.
Demands on theWa.ter System II 2 Fund in the sum of One
Thousand Six Hundred Twelve and 40/100 Dolla.rs ($16l2.40)
were read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
demands be allowed and w~rrants drawn on the Treasurer for the
amount.. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
me.eting adjourn until March 28th, 1927. Motion carried.
