The Trustees present were: Leanis, Durbin, Levy and
Furlang.
The Trustee absent was: Kniffin.
The minutes af the meeting af March 21, 28 and April
4, 1921, were read.
It was maved by Levy and secanded by Durbin that the
minutes be appraved as read. Motian carried.
A communicatian fram the Bureau af Water\'larks and
Supply af the City af Las Angeles, in regards to. their
applicat ian far a permit to. 1 ay a water main an Ea.st 25th
Str3et, betvveen Santa Fe Avenue and Alameda street was
read..
It was moved by Leonis and secanded by Durbin that
the application be filed and permit granted. Mation
carried.
A carmnunicatian from the Fidelity and Deposit Campany,
regarding band of F. G. French, City Treasurer, was read.
It was moved by Levy and secanded by Leanis that the
matter be referred to. the Finance Carmnittee. Mation
carried..
A communicatian from the Baard of Public Works af the
City af Los Angeles, regarding the unhealthy, unsanitary candition
and avertaxing of the Vernan sewers was read. At this time
the City Engineer stated that he vIas in canference with the
Ci ty Engineer af Los Angeles regarding this matter, and
requested that the same be filed.
It was maved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
carmnunication be filed. li!atian carried.
A communication from the :Brovm-Leithhold Company
requei:,;ting a permit for the rnanufacturing of paints and
lacquers at 3010 -East 25th street was read.
It wasmaved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
cammunicatian be filed and the permit denied. Motion
carried.
A cammunicatian fram the Lewis Mator Campany quating
the price an a one tan Ford truck, stake bady and clased
cab, was rea.d..
It was maved by Leanis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be filed.. Mati on carried.
An applicatian far a permit by Tam Angiul, et al,
to. install machinery for the purpase af grinding caw and
sheep manure at 2316 East 37th Street vIas read.

ORDIUA.i\fCE No. 402: An Ordinance repealing Ordinance No.
214 oY the City of Vel~non ',vas read for second reading.
It was :moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that
Ordinance No. 402 be passed for second reading.
ORDINAI\fCEn~o. 402:. An Ordinance repealing Ordinance No.
214 of the Ci ty of Vernon was read for third and final
reading..
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that
Ordinance No. 402 be adopted. lv!otion carried by the
following vote:
A:yes: Levy, Durbin, Leonis and Furlong.
Noes: None.
Absent~ Kniffin.
A?PLICA~ION No. 1150 ~ By the Up-to-Date Pattern Shop for a.
permit toconstruct a curb in the street for flower bed
purposes was read. At this ti:me City Engineer recommended
that this application be denied and the curb, previously
placed in there by the applicant, be taken out.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in, and the
City Clerk be instructed to immediately notify the Up-to-
Date Pattern Shop to remove their curb from the street.

APPLICATIon No... 1157: By the Southern California Gas Company
to lay gas service at 2326 East 49th street was read.. At
this time the City Engineer requested that the Board disallow
the permit as it originally stands and suggested certain
changes therein, and requested that the permit be granted
if the applica.nt would make the changes.

APPLICATION No. 1158: By Southern California Gas COInpany
t to lay gas serv ice at 2324 East 49th Street was read. The
City Engineer at this time recormnended certain changes in
the route of the excavation necessary, and recoymuended that
the permit be granted upon the applicant making these changes.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
application be filed and the permit granted upon the approval
of the City Engineer that the applicant make the changes
required. Motion carried.
At this time the Fire Cornmission recommended that the toll far
telephone in the Fire Chief's house or residence be paid by
the City.

It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin tlmt the
recommendation of the Fire Corrnnission be accepted and
that hereafter all bills paid for the telephone in the
Fire Chieft"s house by the City. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
City Clerk be instructed tb notify the Southern Pacific
Company and the Union Pacific Company to immediately start
paving bet'lleen the spur tract s on Ala."Yleda Street. Mati on
carried.
At this time the resignation of H. B. 1fegowan, police
officer, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
same be accepted. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that E. K.
Neskern be employed at $125.00 per month in the place and
stead of H. B. Megowan res igned. Moti,on carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the
improvement of Topeka and Center Streets and securing deeds
for the' land necessary be referred to the City Engineer and
City Attorney. Motion carried.
It "vas moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that H. H,
Isaa..c, fomite inspector, be requested to make report on the
oil refineries of the City of Vernon that have not been
reported on recently. Motion. carried.
At this time the Fire Con:mlission reported, after a.
medical examination of the Assistant Chief. that it would not
be a pl~oper thing for th(:l city to have him employed in the
event of a fire, and that the ]'i1'e Cornmission recommended tha
he be susuended as such Asst. Chief until further notice.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
Assistant Fire Chief be suspended until further notice.
:Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
City Clerk be instructed to 1'eadvertise for bids for the
improvement of 46th Street. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk advised the l~oard that this
was the time and plae.e fixed pursuant to Statute and notice
given for the hearing in the matter of the assessment for the
improvement of Slauson Avenue, as contemplated by Resolution
of Intention }To. 460, adopted on the 7th day of September,. 1926.
The Clerl{ also informed the Board that affidav it of the
posting of the l~otice of Filing Assessment ';'las on file in bis
office and that no written appeals or objections had been
filed in his office prior to the day set for the hearing, or
otherwi se.
The President of the Board then asked if t]~re were any
interested persons present desiring to be heard in the matter)
and no one responded. All interested persons having been
given full opportuni ty to show cause 'iThy the said assessment
should not l:Je confirmed, all obj ect ions presented having
been heard and fully considered, and the Board having been
satisfied with the correctness of the assessment,

Thereupon Trustee Leonis moved that the assessment
be confirmed and approved, which motion, seconded by
Trustee Durbin, was carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Leonis, Durbin, Levy and Furlong.

RESOLUTION No. 48b: A resolution approving the map of
Tract-l'fo. --9146 of the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
Resolution no. 48b be adopted. Motion carried.
A communication from the Southern Pacific Company in
reference to the Railroad Commissioners Decision No. 15345,
dated August 27, 192.5, providing for the opening of 48th
Street, Vernondale, across the Southern Pacific track was
read..
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the matter be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.

the City Engineer, were read:

Boulevard, north from Fruitland Road to Chambers street ,
west on mlronbers Street to F~mpton street, south on H&Jlpton
Street to Chambers street to East 49th street, thence east
on 49th street to Pacific Boulevard.
At this time the Ci ty Engineer l'ecom:mended that cer-
tain changes be made in the o;::iginal application, and tha.t
the same be approved if the applicant would consent to these
changes.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the
application be filed and the permit granted, subject to the
approval of tile City Engineer, and that the applicant make
the changes as requested. Motion carried.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the
Ci ty Engineer and City Attorney start proceedings for the
straightening of .East 26th street. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department on the general con-
ditions of the City of Vernon Vias read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be filed. Motion carried..
Demands on the General Fund in the sum of Eight Thousand
Three Hundred Twenty-four and 61/100 Dollars (,$8,324.61)
were read.
Demands on the Trust Fund in the sum of Thirty-seven and
55/100 Dollars ($37.55) were read.
Demands on the Water System No. 2 Fund in the sum of
T\'fO Hundred Eighty-one and 30/100 Dollars (;$281.30) \vere read.
