The meeting was called to order by the President, .T. .T.
Furlong, at ~ o'clock P. M.
The trustees present were: Leonis, Durbin, Levy and
Furlong.
The Trustee absent was: Kniffin.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the min-
utes of the meet ings of 2nd and16t~ of Ma.y, 1927, be laid over
until the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk presented protests a.gainst
the improvement of streets as set forth in Ordinance of In-
tention No. 401, from the following n~~ed firms and persons:

It vvas moved by Le onis and seconded by Durbin that the
protests be referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney
for report as to the legality of form and as to the ownership
of property, as set forth in said protests. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION' N'o. 489: A resolution submitted by the County of
Los Angeles Road Department in regard to the improvement of
Slauson Avenue was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin tr~t Reso-
lution Ho. 489 be adopted, and that the proper officials of
the City of Vernon be instructed to execute the necessal"J papers.

Application for a permit by 1rrs. Anna 'Todd to operate a
lunch room at 5300 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy tl~t the same
be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
A communication from the MellO. Haldeman Corp. regard ing
the opening of East 37th Street across the railroad tracks on
Alameda Street was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the com-
munication be filed a.nd the City Clerk be L,structed to com-
munica.te with the MellO. Haldeman Corp. informing them that
the City is nOif working upon a plan similiar to the one suggested
in their cormnunication. Motion carried.

A circular letter from John H. Miller, Chairman, Legislative
Cormnittee, in regards to h().ving all State offices located in
Sacramento, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
A communication from the American Can Company protesting
against a certain concern proposing to ~erate adjoining their
property a factory that will handle a certain stockyard by-
product, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the com-
munication be filed and that the City hlarshal, be instructed to
notify the American Can Company that no permit has been issued
to anyone to operate a factory as outlined in their communica.tion,
and if one is started that they immediately cornmunicate with
the Marshal's office. Mqtion carried.

A cO~lmunication from C. J. Rambo & Company in regard to the
annual audit was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin th~t the
same be filed. Motion carried.
A communication from the State Board of Health requesting
copies of ordinances which pertain to health and sanitation
was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be filed and that the City Clerk be instructed to notify
the Board that there was not at the present time any ordinances
covering the subjects referred to in their communication.
Motion carried.
A communication from the Department of Water & Power of
Los Angeles requesting a permit to construct and maintain a
power transmission line across East 26th Street, east of Harriett
Street, also to construct a guy wire across East 26th Street, to
their incinerator; as per plan submitted, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and sec~.mded by Durbin that 'the com-
munication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
An application for a permit to operate a paper and magazine
baleing concern at 2702 S. Alameda Street by C. . Correll and
Geo. Vnlitehead was read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
A communication from the Huntington Park and Los Angeles
Transfer Company requesting permit to haul rubbish over the
streets of\Ternon was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
A communication from the State Board of Health in regard
to the overtaxing of sewers in the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be referred to the City Engineer and the Sewer Committee.
Motion earried.
A cOll1..lllunication from John G. Johnston & Company in regard
to the insurance on the reservoir was read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the City
Clerk be instructed to place t he insurance as su:;gested in said
communication, if Trustee Durbin could not secure a lower rate
of insurance covering the same property with some reliable board
cOElpany. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk presented Map Iro. 9937 for the
approval of the Board.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same
be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion carried.

It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the same
be referred to the City Attorney for investigation and report.

A communication from the Associated Oil Company requesting
that a permit ce is sued to Jill'. A. Siroonian to haul rubbish from
the property of the Associated Oil Company to the Los Angeles
:Dumping grounds was rea.d...
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the com-
munication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from the Owens Parks Lumber Company req,uest-
ing a permit to be issued to Mr. A. Siroonian to hai rubbish
from the property of the Owens Parks Lumber Company to the Los
Angeles Dumping ground was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the com-
municat ion be filed and the permit granted. Taotion ca.rried.
A communication from the Metals Refining Company for a.
permit to transport refuse from their plant to their dumping
ground on the l~ndini Tract, outside of the City of Yernon was
rea.d.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the com-
munication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
An application for a permit to haul rubbish from the City
of Yernon to the Los Angeles dumping grounds by Bert Yeager was
read..
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy 'that the same
be filed and permit granted.. Motion carried.
The statement of the Water Department was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department on the general conditions
of the city wa.s read.
It was moved by Durbin and see onded by Levy that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
An application from W. H. McClain for a permit to haul rub-
bish and garbage out of the city of Yernon was read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the same
Ce filed. Motion car~ied.
At this time the Fire Commission reported that it had
employed Harold Burnell a.s hoseman on probation in the place of
P. G. Casey, resigned.
It wa.s moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the action
of the Fire Commission be approved. Motion carried.

It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
City Attorney be instructed to draw up a penal ordinance
covering the driving over fire hose in the City of Vernon
when the same is laid out for a fire; also an ordinance
covering the ventilation on gas tanks and stations.

The following applications, all having the approval of
the City Engineer. were read:
APPLICAj:ION No. 11.92: ~J the Los Angeles Railway Company for
the construction of So grandstand in their material yard's base
ball field. approximate cost $1500.00.
APPLICATION No. 1193: By the General Electric Company for the
construction of a wash rack at 5201 Santa Fe Avenue, approximate
cost $500.00.
APPLICATION' No. 1194: By the Safeway Stores for the construction
of a bakery and warehouse at 1925 E. Vernon Avenue. approximate
cost $220.000.00.
APPLICATION No. 1195: By the Southern California Gas Company for
a permit for gas connection at 2650 E. Vernon Avenue.
APPLICATION No. 1196: By the Southern California Gas Company for
a permit for gas connection at 2640 Ea.st 26th Street.
APPLICATION lio. 1197: By the St one Chemical Company for a permit
to remove fwenty feet of curb for driveway at 2000 East Vernon
Avenue.
APPLICATION No. 1199: By the Illinois Pacific Glass Company for
a permit to connect to the sewer on Fruitland Road and Soto Street.
APPLICATION No. 1200: ~ the General Electric Company for a permit
to connect to' the sewer on East 52nd Street.
APPLIC.4.T ION No. 1201: By St ephens Adamson Company.for a building
permit at 2227 East 37th Street. approximate cost $4500.00.
APPLICA'l'ION No. 1202: By the ';Vestern Iron & Metal Company for a
build.ing permit for the construction of a 'eIarehouse and factory at
2435 East 26th Street. approximate cost $9000.00.
APPLICATION No. 1204: By the Interurban Service Station for So
permit to install two gasoline tank~ under the sidewalk at 49th
street and Santa Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the appli-
cation be filed and permits granted.
APPLICATION No. 1203: By the Boyle Dayton Com)any for the install-
a.tion of a gasoline tank for the Philip Friedman Company at 5000
Pacific BouleVard was read.
The City Engineer reported that this tank had been installed
without a permit and is nO'N in the driveway where large steel
trucks will drive over it. and recommended that this application
be denied and that a plat be filed showing th~ tank located out
of the driveway.

recommendations of the City Engineer be concurred in and that
the City Clerk be instructed to re~uest the Boyle Dayton Company
to file a plat showing the location of the tank outside of the
drivevra.y. Motion carried.
Demands on the General Fund in the sum of Four Thousand
Five Hundred Sixty-five and 05/100 Dollars ($4,565.05).
Demands on the Water Svstem Fund No. 2 in the sum of
Thirty-three and 03/100 Dollars ($33.03).
Demands on the Southwest Sewer Fund H'o. 1. in the sum of
One Thousand Eight Hundred Forty-seven and 37/100 Dollars
($1847..3.7) .
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
d. emands be allowed and warrants drawn. Motion carried.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that ~he meeting
