The meeting VIas called to order by the President~ J.. J. Furlong. The Trustees present were: Durbin, Levy and Furlong. The Trustees absent were: Kniffin and Leonis. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the minutes of the meet ings o.f June 20 and July 5, 1927, be laid over. Motion carried. The bid of Jones-Thorne & Company, received July 5, 192'1, for twelve fire hydrants, and referred to the City l!:ngineer for approval, was then presented to the board, with the recomrnendation of the Ci ty Engineer to the effect that the bid be accepted and the City pay One Hundred Seventeen ($117.00) Dollars for each hydrant. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the recoIT@endation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion carried. A communication from the Southern Pacific Company in regard to the opening of East 49th Street, across the right- of-way on Alameda Street was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the matter be laid over until the next regular meeting on August 1, 1927. Motion carried. A communication from the Los Angeles By-Products Com- pany requesting a permit to operate a. metal reclamation plant on :East 26th Street, opposite the Los Angeles Incin- erator was read. It vias moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the same be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion carried. .. RESOLU1'ION No. 49l: A resuJJ..tion, vii th revised district map, submitted by the County of Los Angeles Road Department, in regard to the improvement of Slauson Avenue, under County Improvement No. 349, was read. The recoInIDendation of the City Engineer of Resolution No. 49l and approving the map of the revised district, was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that Resolution No. 49l be adopted. Motion carried.. OID)INANCE NO. 403: An ordinance granting a franchise to the Southern Pacific Company to construct a spur tra.ck in the alley between East 37th Street and East 38th street.. in said city was read~ for first reading. --1' -11 9' u.J. - July l8, 192'7. Los Angeles CountYl in reference to the franchise heretofore granted by said Los Angeles County, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the same be filed. Motion carried. A communication from Brown-Leithold Company, requesting an extension of time for the moving of their plant from 3010 East 25th street to Riverside Drive and Heliotrope in Laguna MaYlifOod District was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that a. thirty days e:-\:tension of time be granted. 1Jlotion carried. An alJplication submitted by John 11onkoff for permission to haul rubbish in and about the City of Vernon was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the applica.tion be denied. Motion carried. A communication from the Arcadia Bandini Baker Estate Company requesting the changirrg of the name of Holabird Avenue tollashington Boulevard, heretofore referred to the City Attorney and City Engineer, same having the approva.l of the City Engineerl was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the matter be laid over until the first regular meeting in August. Motion carried. A copy of the Resolut ion adopted by the Board of Supervisors, authorizing an appropriation of Seventy-five Thousand Dollars ($75,000.00) for the extension of Soto Street in said City was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the sa.me be filed.. Motion carried. A circular letter from the Eureka ]'ire Hose :Manufactur- ing Company regarding the Fire Chiefs t C:Jnvention, August 7 and 8, at Portlandl Oregon, Vlas read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the same be filed. Motion carried. it.. communication from the Los Angeles Paving Company requesting an extension of sixty days time for the comple- tion of East 46th Street was read. It was moved by Levy and seco'nded by Durbin that an a,"':.tension of thirty days time be granted. Motion carried. A communication from the Police Departmentl regarding the discharging of motorcycle officer E. K. Nislwrn and the appointment of F. L. It was moved by Levy and seoonded by Durbin that the con~unication be filed and the appointment approved. Motion carried. The report of the Police Department on the applica- tion of Mrs. J. L. Clay for a permit to operate a res- taurant at 3207 East Vernon Avenue was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the report be approved- and filed and.permit granted. :Motion carried The report of the Police Department on the communi- cation of the Vernon Lumber Company regarding a. safety zone in front of their establislwlent at 1935 East Vernon Avenue, wherein said Police Department recormnended that said safety zone be not granted, was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the report be filed and the recommendation of the Police De- }Jartrnent be c onaurred in. lJrot i un carried. At this time the Vernon and Southeastern Industrial Association asked ~oermission to hold a meet ing in the Council Chambers of the City Iiall on the 21st day of July, 1927.. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the request be granted. Motion carried. At this time Mr. Levy requested a three weeks leave of absence from the city. It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Durbin that the request be granted. Motion carried. A communication from the Giant Paint Produce Company presented by Trustee Durbin, as Fire Commissioner, was presented to the Board, with the request that he be empoviered to return the same to the City Clerk, as the communication was vague and indefinite. -It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the communication _be referred to the City Clerk. Motion granted. The report of the Police Department on the general condition of the city was read. It Vlas moved by Durbin and sec onded by Le.vy that the StalIle be filed.. Ilotion carried. APPLICATION No. l239: By Foster & Kleiser for a building permit for the construction of sign boards an the northeast and southeast corners of Leonis and Pacific Boulevards, a.pproximate cost $200.00, was read.
