It \",&s moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the min-
utes be a..pproved as read. Motion carried.
At this time the City Engineer requested more time to
make a report upon the bids submitted far the construction of the
bridge an Seta Street.
It was moved by Durbin and seeonded by Levy that the en-
gineer be granted more time. Motion carried.
Application far a permit to haul ashes and. non-combustible
waste that accumulates from the incinerator of the Nevnnarket Com-
pany at 12th a.nd Main Streets, in the City of Los Angeles" to their
Vernon property, for the purpose of filling holes a.nd law places
upon their property in. the City of Vernon. was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the ap-
plication be filed, and the permit gra.nted. Motion carri-ed.
Application by J"ohn Klavis for a permit to haul a.shes and
can.s from the Pool Ca.fe at 3815 Santa Fe Avenue to 26th street and
the River, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the ap-
plication be filed, a.nd the permit granted. Mot ion earried.
Applieation by W. F. Smith for a permit to haul non-eom-
bustible rubbish from 2312-East 37th Street to the L. A. Foundry,
located at 25th &A1ameda. Streets, was read.

A.pplication by :r. J'. Hahn for a permit to haul garbage
from Doyles Ca.fe, outside of the City of Vernon, wa.s read.
It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that the a.p-
plication be filed, and the permit granted. Motion carried.
A)plication by R. B. Spitz.er for a permit to store re-
possessed automobiles and to recondition a.utomobiles 011 property
located at Slauson & Alameda Streets, was rea.d.
It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin tha.t the ap-
plication be referred to the I'1re Chief', for investiga.tion a.nd re-
port. llotion carried.
Communieat ion from the Eureka Foundry Pattern Company com-
plaining of sparks coming from the Los Angeles Incinera.tor J vias read.

It was moved by Levy anrcd seconded by Durbin that the com-
munication be ~iled. and the City Clerk be instructed to noti~y the
E.ureka. Foundry COmpany that the City of Los Angeles has now placed
a sareen on said Incinerator which would prevent sparks from flying.
Motion carried.
Communication from the Pennzoil Compa.ny complaining of
large flakes o.f soot falling on their premises f'rom the L. A.. In-
cinerator. was rea.d.
It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that this com-
munication take the same course a,s the previous communication.
Motion ca.rried.
Applica.tion! by F. J". Hardy for permit to operate a res-
ta.urant at 431.5 Downey Road,. wa.s rea.d.
It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that the ap-
plication be referred to the Police Department. Mot.ion carried.
Report by Fire Chief on the application of Oscar 1[e,ltz.er
for a permit to operate a mattress renovating plant at 57th &. Santa
Fe Avenue. was again presented to the Board, and the reeomendation
of the Fire Chief, to the effect that the application be granted,
was rea.d.
It was moved by Durbin a.nd seconded by Levy that the ap-
plication be filed, and the recomenda.tion of the Fire Chief be con-
curred in, and the permit gra.nted. Mot.ion carried.
Application of O. A. Strass for a. permit to operate a
foundry and pattern shop in the new building of the Able Invest-
ment Company at 2820 Santa Fe A.venue. The business to be known a.s
the American Pattern &- 1la.nufacturing Company, was read.
It w~s moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the ap-
plication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Application of Louis Halwe for a permit to opera,te a mach-
ine shop at 5706 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the a.p-
plication be filed, and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the state Board of Health, requesting
the name of the Real th Officer succeeding Dr. L. J". Williams, was
read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the com-
municat ion be referred to the commi tt.ee, as a whole. Mot i on earried.
Report of the Rai.lroad Commission regarding an order grant-
ing permission to increase passenger fares by the Pacifie Electric
Company, was rea..d.
It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
C'ommunication f'rom the City Clerk of the City of Los Ang-
eles,., rega.rding the reloea..tion of the sewer crossing the Los Angeles
River at Soto Street, wa.s read.

be filed. Motion Carried.
Application by F. H. Grant for permission to conduct an
auto repair- shop a.t 23161- East 37th Street, was rea.d.

of the L. A. By-Products Company for a. permit to opera.te on site
across from the L. A. Incinera.tor" in the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the same
be laid over till the meeting af the fu11 Board. !lotion carried.
Application of the L. A. By-Product Company for a per-
mission to conduct business of purchasing, storing and selling met-
als, junk, bottles etc., on the above location, was read.
It wa.s moved by Durbin and aeconded by Levy that the ap-
plication take the same course as the previous communication.
Motion carried.
Communication from the L. A. Paving C:ompany requesting a.
thirty day extension of time for the comp1etioD of the bnprovement
on East 46th street, was read.

tension of time be granted. Motion carried.
Application by the Nevada. Lime &: Rock Corpora.tion for a
permit to opera.te a. warehouse at 25th &:: Alameda. streeta, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the ap-
plication be filed and the permit gra.nted. Motion carried.
CIommunication from the Engineering Department of the City
of Los Angeles, regarding plans and assessment maps for the im-
provement of Downey Road and U"nionPacific Avenue, under the Bound-
ary Line Act, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the mat-
ter be referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report
at the next regula.r meeting. Motion carried.
A. report of the Police Department on the application of
Margaret Brown for 8.. lunch room at 5lst st., &:: Pacific Bl.vd., and
Otis A. Miller for a. lunch room at 2025 and 2027 East 38th street,
was again submitted to the Board for disposition, and the recomen-
dation of the Police Department that the application be filed and
the permits denied.. owing to the unsanitary condition of hoth places,
was read.
It wa.,s moved by Durbin a.nd seconded by Levy that the ap-
plica.tion be filed.'fhe report of the Police Departm.ent be concurred
in and the application denied. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department" was read.

Report of the Water Departraent for the month of August,
1927, was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin, the same to be filed.
Motion carried.
COJllIl1unication from the Police Department recormnending that
the license for the restaurant operated by Gus .Tohnson at 2318 East
52nd Street be revoked , owing to the fact that the place was used
as a hang out place for persons under the influence of intoxicating
liquor. and that the proprietor thereof was not.at all times, in a
sober condit ion to run the premises. and it is be.coming a nuisance.
Mr. J"ohnson being present, informed the board that he would a.gain
make a re-application for a permit to run the restaurant.,

RESOLUTION NO. 493: A resolution of the Board of Trustees of
the City of Vernon adopting plans and specifications for the
improvement of i'opeka. Avenue in the City of Vernon~ between
the West Line of Santa. Fe Avenue and a point ten (lol feet east-
erly from the East Line o,f 1Alameda street.
It wa.s moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that reso-
lution No. 495 be adopted. ][otion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 494: A resolution of the Board of Trustees o.f
the City of Vernon approving map of an assessment district for
the improvement of Topeka Avenue in the City of Vernon between
the West Line of Santa Fe Avenue and a point ten (lO) f"eet east-
erly from the East Line of Alameda street.
It wa.s moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that reso-
lution No. 494 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 495: A resolution of the Board of Trustees of
the City of Vernondeelaring their intention to order certain
work and improvement to be made on Topeka Avenue in the City of
Vernon between the West Line of Santa Fe Avenue and a point ten
(10) feet easterly from the East Line of Alameda Street.
It wa..s moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin th8.t reso-
lution No. 495 be adopted. Mation earried.
APPLICATION No. 1.2.65: For building permit by the .Archer Blow
Pipe Company for construction of incinerator for the Western Box
&. Lumber Company at 21.01 East 51st Street, approximate cost of
$.700.00.
APPLICATION NO. 1266:: For building permit by the Pacific Steel
Building Com:pany for construction of office pa..rtitions at 2065
Ea:st 51st Street. Approximate cost of 1500.00.
APPLICATION NO. 1267: For building permit by the West Coast
Glass Company for construction of a Steel frame warehouse at 3235
East Slauson Avenue. Approximate cost of $850.00.
APPLICATION NO. l268:. For building permit by the Pacific Lime
&. Plaster Company for the construction of a. steel pla.te silo at
1840 East 25th Street.. A:pproximate cost of $3500.00.
APPLICATION NO. 1269: For building permit by the Globe Packing
COmpany to construct a new packing ~la.nt 00 Lot 6 of the John R.
Ta.ylor ~ra.ct.. Approximate cost of $30,,000.00.
APPLICATION 1ro. 1.270: For a permit to make sewer conneetionl by

APPLICATION NO. l272: For building permit by Abegg &. Reinhold

for construction of a. Steel Foundry for the Warman Steel Casting
Company a.t 60th & Boyle Avenue.. Approximate cost of" $14000.00.
