The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Durbin.
The Councilmen present were: Jrurlong, Leonis and
'rhe COU'ncilmen absent were:
Levy and Kni.ffin.
The assessment diagram. prepared by the City Engineer
for the improvement of 46th Street as contemplated by Resoluti.on
of Intention No. 481 was again presented to the Council for
their approval.
It was moved byConncilman Leonis that said diagra.m. be
approved", seconded by Councilman Durbin. Motion carried.
The Clerk at this time advised the Council that this
was the time and place fixed pursuant to the motion duly made
and seconded and carried in the minutes of the meeting of the
City Council an the 2l-.t day of November. 1927, for the hearing
in thema.tter of the asse.ssment for the improvement o.f 46th
Street,. as contemplated by Re5olution of Intention No. 481.
adopted on the 31st day of .Tanuary,. 1927.
The Clerk also informed the Council that the affidavit
of pO$ting of the notice of filing assessment was on file in his
office and that no written appeals or objections had been filed
in his office prior to the date set for hearing or at a.l1.
The' Mayor then asked if there were any interested
person.s p.resent desiring to be heard in the matter and he received
no r-espo.nse from the people there asaembled.
All interested persons having been given full oppor-
tunity to show cause why the said assessment should not be.
confirmed and the City Council having been satisfied with the
correctness of the assessment,. thereupon Councilman L.eonis
moved that said assessment be confirmed and approved., which
motion was seconded by COuncilman Durbin and carried by the

It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin tha.t

Application of B. J'. Nelson for license to operate a
resta.urant at 5710 Santa Fe~ was read.
It Was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
same be ref"erred to the Police Department. Motion carried.

Application of C. R. Daly for a license to operate a
eigar, candy, tobacco and soft drink concession in the Produce
Terminal 'Ma.rket, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be granted. Motion carried.
Application of :1". H. Grande for a license as auctioneer
in the Produce Terminal Market, was read.'
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
application be filed and the license granted. Motion carried.
A communication from J. E. Gray Sausage Casing Company
regarding an ammonia ice machine in their plant at 3043 East
Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that.
same be filed. Motion. carried.
Application of Fred M. .Tohnson for a municipal free
license to sell box lunches, etc. was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that same
be taken under advisement. Motion carried.
Application by California Equipment Rental Bureau for
a license to conduct a business of renting and selling con-
tractort>s machinery., was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
same be granted. Motion carried.
Application of B. F. Kindred for a license to a.pera.te
a. restaurant at 2318 East 52nd Street. wa.s read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
same be referred to the Police Department. laotioI'! carried.
The report of the Police Department on the application
of Frank Milutinovieh for a license to opera.te a restaurant in
the New :Market Building located in the Central Manufacturing
District. recommending tha.t t.he applioation be granted, was
read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
applicatio.n be filed and the recommendation of the Police De-
partment concurred in and the applica.tion granted. l,[otion
carried.
The report of the Police Department on the application
of Tarokichi Kuroda. for a license to opera.te a pool and billiard
hall at 4535 and 4537 Produce Terminal. was read,. wherein the
Police Department recommended that the application be. filed and
the permit denied awing to the fact that the business to be
transacted was prohibited in that zone.
It was moved by Durbin and ~ecollded by Leonis that
the report be filed and the recommendation of the Police De...
partment concurred in. Motion carried.

application be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
The application of R. B. denkins for permission to
opera.te a paint and varnish st ore and factory at 2000-2012 East
Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonie that the
application be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Demands on the Genera.l Fund in the sum o.f $4480.89,
were read.
It was moved by Leonie and seconded by Durbin that the
demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasurer for the
same. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the
