The meeting was called to order by the ~~yor. j. ~.
The Councilmen present were: Durbin, Levy, Furlong
and Leonis.
'rhe Councilman absent was: Kniffin.
The minutes of the meetings of November 7th, lOth and
21st were read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
minutes be approved as read. Motion carried.
A circular letter from E.. W. Hopkins, County Assessor,
Los Angeles County, regarding collection of taxes, was read.
I.t was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
A. communication from A.. C.. Paul Company. regarding in-
stallation of ice machine at 3043 East Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
A. communicat ion frOIjt the Southeast Advertiser regard-
ing their issue of December 23. 1927, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
same be filed. Mot ion carried.
A copy of letter sent by California State Board of
Health to the City Clerk of Los Angeles, regarding sewage, vvas
read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy tha.t the
same be filed. Motion carried.
An a-pplicat ion by Hall & Haskins for permit to conduct
a produce esta.blishment in the Produce Terminal Building, wa5
read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the
sarne be filed. Motion carried.
An applica.tion by Henry Sarles for a permit to operate
a restaurant at 5208 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy tbat the
same be referred to the Police Department for investigation a.nd
report. Motion carried.
An application by :1". Ernst for a. permit to do business
of repa.iring and selling of magnet 05 , carburetors and electrica.l
appliances at no. 2812 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the
application be filed and the permit gra.nted. Motion carried.

It was moved by Leonis a.nd seconded by Durbin that the

permit to haul rubbish from their premises loca.ted at No. 2312
East 52nd Street to Signal Rill dump, was read.
It was mo",ed by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
applicat ion be filed and the permit granted. Mot ion. ca.rried.
A cormnunication from the West Coast Kalsomine Company
for a permit to paul refuse and rubbish from 3263 East 26th
Street to the city dump at 26th and Los Angeles River~ was read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
a.pplicat ion be filed and the permit granted. Mot ion ca.rried.
A communica.tion from the Technical Gla.ss Company for
a. permit to haul rubbish from their plant located a.t 2050 East
48th Street, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
applica.t ion be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.

ing permission to haul rubbish in the City of Vernon, was read.
It Vias moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that the
communication be filed a.nd the permit granted. :Mot ion carried.

for a permit to ha.ul rubbish from their premises loca.ted at
2200 Ea..st 38th Street to Florence Avenue dump., was read..
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
At this time C'ouncilma.n Durbin introduced
RESOLUTION ~Q.. 500: A Resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon authoriz.ing the entering into of So contract with
the City of Maywood in reference to fire protection.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that
Resolution No. 500 be adopted.. Motion ca.rried by the fallowing

The report of the Po~ice Department on the application
Qf B. J'. Ne~son for a permit to operate a reata.ura.nt at 57~O
Santa Fe Avenue _ wherein said rep ort recommended that the app~i-
ca.tion be denied for reasons stated in said report, wa.s read.
It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Durbin that the
report be fi~ed a.nd the recommendations of the Police Department
concurred in. M.otion carried.

It. corrnnunication from Levy Bros. for a. permit to haul
refuse from their plant to the City of Los Angeles dump. was
read..
It wa.s moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that
the appliaation be filed and the permit gra.nted. Motion carried.
At this time the City Epgineer reco:mmended that the
R. B. .Tenkins Paint Works be given So permit to build a roof'"
over their equipment.
It wa.s moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that aame
be granted. :Motion carried.
It wa..s moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the
sum of $200.00 be taken from the music and promotion fund a.nd
be given to Fire Chief Scott of the City of Los Angeles for
the benefit of the Firemants Relief' of Lo.s Angeles for the
services rendered the City of Vernon. :Motion carried.
At this time Councilman Leonis report.ed to the Council
that it was the unanimous opinion of the Fire Commission that
the City of Vernon sl10uld appropriate the sum of $200.00 from
the gen.eral fund to the Firemen's Relief Fund and recommended
to the COWlcil tha.t this be done. It was moved by Levy and
seconded by Durbin that the reco:mmenda.tion of the Fire
Commission be concurred in and that the City Clerk be authori~ed
to draw a warra.nt upon the City for the sum of $200.00 to be
paid to the Vernon Firemen's Relief Fund. :Motion carried.
At this time the report of the Police Department on
the application of B. F. Kindred to opera.te a restaurant at
2318 East 52nd Street. was read. said report recommending that
the permit be granted.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
report of the Police Department be concurred in. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded

sta.tistics from a.ll industries in the City of
a.nd expense not to exceed 1600.00 per month.
