At this time the City Clerk announced that the repre- sentatives of the Vernon Industrial Associatian were present and infa.'rmed the a-at1ncil that the Assacia.tian W'a.s willing to enter intO' a contract submitted by the City Attorney, to nse their organization far the purpose a.f advertising and promoting the industries of said City. After a. general. discussian between the members of the Assaciatian and the Cauncil, ORDINAUCE NO. 408: An Ordinance af the City of Vernan a.pprapriat- ing the sum af Twenty Thausand ($20,000.00) Dallal'S fram the general fund af said City far the purpase of praviding a fund to' be used far publicity and advertising far said City,provid- ing the manner a.nd purposes in and for which said apprapriat ion shall be used and expended, a.nd authari~ing the MayaI' and City Clerk of maid City to' enter intO' a cantraet on beha.il of said aity with the Vernon Industrial DevelapmentAssociatian far the use and expenditure. of such funds far snch purpases,. was read ,for a secand reading. Mter a. general discussion participated in by all members of the COuncil and with the assurance from the City Attorney that the City was well protected. it wa.s moved by Durbin a.nd seconded by Levy that the contract as submitted b.y the C-i ty Attorney be a.pproved and that the lfayor and City Cl erk be a.u thoriz.ed to execute the same. A communication from the Globe Sanitary Supply C'ompany for a. permit to conduct the business of manufacturing disinfec- tant and janitor supplies at 3045 Ea.st Vernon Avenue" wa.s read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the permit be granted. Motion carried. A communication from the Gol.dco Bra.ss &; J.lrfg. Co.. for a permit to haul refuse a.nd rubbish from 2820 Santa Fe Avenue, wa.s read. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the connnunication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. A report from the Police Department on the applieat ion of P. Goldstein for a permit to operate a. second ha.nd machinery yard &.t 2900 San-ta Fe Avenue. was read. wherein the Police De- partment reconnnended tha.t the license be granted. It wa.s moved by Leonis and seconded hy Levy tha.t the report of the Police Depa.rtment be concurred in a.nd the permit granted. Motion. carried. A report from H. H. Isa.acs on the a..pplication of the Oil Well Heater Company to c'o:nduct a. business a.t 2900 Sa.nta Fe Avenue. W'as read. It was moved by Leonie and seconded by Levy that the report and application be referred to the Fire Department and Councilman Levy for investigation and report. Motion carried. A communica.tion from the Los Angeles Union Stock Ya.rds Comp.any regarding the removal of a tree in the vicinity at' the United sta.tes Spring Bumper Compa.ny because the branches interfere with the workmen on the trains, was read. It wa.s moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the City Clerk communi cate 1,vi th the Los Angeles Union stoCk Yards Company informing them that there is no opposition on the part of the City to the trinnning of said tree or the remGval of same provided they can get permission from the land owner upon whose land the tree now stands. Mot ion carried. The City Clerk announced there was a petit'ion upon his desk for the annexa.t;ton of certain territory described in said petition to the City of Vernon. and he read same to the Council. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the petition be referred to the City Clerk a.nd the City Attorneys and the City Engineer. The City Clerk to check the names thereon and report. the City Engineer to asceeuain if sa.id property is adja.cent and occupied and the City Attorney to report . on the legality of said petition as to form.
