Furlong. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, :r. :r. ']he Councilmen present were: Furlong, Leonie and Durbin. The Councilmen absent were: Levy and Kniffin. It was moved by Durgin and seconded by Leonis that the reading of the minutes of the meetings of January 3rd, 9th, 16th and ~ be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion carried. At this time the Ci ty Clerk announced that this was the time for the hearing of protests on the improvement of :Ba.ndini Boulevard, and reported that there were no protests either oral. or written, filed with him up to the time of the calling to order of the meet ing. The Mayor then asked if there was anyone in the a.udience who had any protests to make on the improvement of' Pandini Boulevard. No protests 'being made. Councilman Durbin introduced RESOLtrfrON NO. 51.0: A Resolution ordering the improvement of :sandini BoUkevard as set forth in the Reso 1.ut i on of Int ent ion J and moved the adoption of the Resolution, which was seconded by Councilmaa Leonis, and carried. It was moved by Leonis and seconded 'by Durbin that the specifications of the City of Los Angeles be and the same a.re hereby approved. Hotion carried. A. communication from the West Coast Glass Company complaining of the nuisance created by the Pa.cific Ready-Cut Homes Company" was read.. ne Fire Chief announced a.t this time that this nuisance has been a.bated. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the communica.tion be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. A. communication from Reid. Murdoch &: Company. request- ing that a. permit be issued to Mr. Pr-ohorof:f :for ha. ul.ing garbage from 4500 District Boulevard, was read. A communication from the Vernon Garage requesting a permit for the hauling of old automobile boCi.ies and fendera through. upon and along the streets of the City of Vernon to Clara Bt reet dump" was read.. A communica.tion from Beatrice gneedy for permission to operate a. resta.urant formerly operated by B.. F. Kindred at 251.8 East 52nd Street, was read. At this time the Fire Commission reported that they had employed Ray Emands as a hose man in pl..ace of Harold Burnell who resigned. at the regular hose mants salary. and requested the a.p provaJ. of" the Counc i 1. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the Council.. approve the appointment of Ray sands to the Fire Depart- ment. :Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 409: An Ordinance regula1ing the business of second-ha.n.d dealers. junk dea.lers and junk collectors in the City o,f Vernon. was read for a first reading. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis tha.t Ordinance No... 409 be passed for first reading. :Motion carried. The report of the Water De.partment was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the report of the Water Department be filed. Motion carried. A connnuniea.t ion from the Police of the City of Vernon regarding the withdrawal of Mr. Arthur Louden from the Department a.nd the appointment of :rvIr-. G. T. Phillips as motorcycle offioer, was read. It was mewed by Durbin and seoonded by Leonis that the appointment be approved. Motion carried. The report of the Police Department on the application of Henry Sarles for a.. restaurant license at 6298 Santa Fe Avenue wherein said Department recommended tha.t the lioense be denied, was read. It was mowed by Durbin and seconded by Leonia that the report be filed and the reoommendations of the P01ic:e Department concurred iil. Motion ca.rried. The report of the Police Department on the general condit ion of the City was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the report be filad. Motion carried. Motion carried.. ~ It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis tha.t the Ci ty Engineer be instructed. to submit to. the City Council for their approval a map of the sewer district and a.. further map of t.he zoning districts a.s heretofore suggested by the Council.
