Levy, Durbin, Leonis The Councilman absent VIas: Kniffin. It was moved by L.evy and seconded by Leonis that the reading of the minutes of the meetings of january 3rd, 9th, 16th and 23rd" and of February 6th and 20th, and of March 5th.. be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion carried. At this time the City Engineer made the report that the Los Angeles Pav ing Company, Inc. was the lowest bidder for the improvement of Topeka Avenue,c and recommended that the contract be awarded to them. At this time Councilman L,evy introduced RESOLUTION NO. 513: A Resolution awarding the contract for the improvement of Topeka.. Avenue to the Los Angeles Paving Company,Inc., and moved its adoption" which was duly seconded by Councilman Leonis, and carried. The City Engineer then reported tha.t George H. OawaJ..d wa.s the lowest'bideler for the improvement of Bandini Boulevard. and recammendeel that the contract be awarded to him. At this time Councilman Levy introduceel RESOLUTION NO. 5J.g: A Resolution awarding the contract for the improvement of Ba.ndini Boulevard to Ge orge Fr. Oswalel, and moved its adoption. which was eluly secondeel by Councilman Leonis, and carrieel. A communication from Walter R. Schulte requesting a permit to haul garbage from restaurant at 4903 Santa. Fe Avenue, was read. It wa.s moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the communica.tion be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. A communication from Bishop & Mathews re~uesting permission to store mill ends (wood blocks) on Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried. A connnunicat ion from Bishop & 1f&thews requesting per- mission to ha.ul devil grass rakings through the City of Vernon to OgaDesoff Fertilizer grounds on Eallt Vernon Avenue, wa.s read. It was moved by Leonie and seconded by Durbin that the same be denied. Motion carried. - 1 ..... 32 A communicat ion from the LOf;! Angeles County Flood Control. District regarding buildings of Tropica.l Hardwood eom- pany. was rea.,d. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the same be filed. Motion carried. A cormnunication from the Railroa<i Commission with a. copy of the Commission's General Order No. 83 atta.ched, regarding automotive pa.ssenger stage corpor~tions. was rea<i. It was moved by Levy a.nd seconded by Leonis that the same be filed. Motion carried. At, this time the City Attorney announced that the City of Los Angeles had sent a copy of their plans and specifications for the Soto Street Sewer By..pass and reCiuested the City of Vernon to approve same. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the plans and specifications submitted by the eity of LOlS Angeles for the construction of the Sewer By-pass on Soto Street~ be ap:proved. Motion carried. At this time eouncilman Levy introduced RESOLUTION NO. 514: A Resolution esta.blishing polling places and appointing election officers for the general municipal election to be held on April 9, 1928. and move<i its adoption, which was seconded by Councilman Leonis, and carried. At this time Councilman Leonis made a motion that the City Council authorize: the City Attorney to secure the right of way for the By-pass for the Soto Street Sewer by condenmation or otherwise, by either bringing a suit in the name of the City of Vernon or the City of Los Angeles, or by the City of Los. Angeles bringing a suit in their own name ancl the City of Vernon to pay the award approved by the Court for the easements, and that if the litigation is conducted by the City of Los Angeles that they pay their own attorney fees. Motion seconded by Councilman Levy and carried. The report of the Police Department on the general condition of the city, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the same be filed. Motion carried. The report of the Wa.ter Department was read. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the same be filed. Kot ion carried. ~ A communication from George H. AJ?PLIaATION NO. 1428: By Austin Company for building permit for the construction of warehouse for Da.,ley.s Incorporated on East 49th Stree,t. Approximate cost $125.000.00. APPLICATION NO. 142.9: By Tropical Hardwood Compa.ny for permit to construct 2500 gallon fuel oil tank (10 feet under ground) on Lots 14 and 15 o.f John R. Taylor Vernon Avenue Villa Lots. Approximate cost $100.00. ' APPLICATION NO. 1430: By H. C. Greve for building permit for the construction of office at :5750 East Vernon A.venue. Approximate cost $200.00. APPLICATION NO. 1431: :By Southern Ca.lifornia Gas Company for permit to relocate gas main on Downey Road south from L.os Angeles City boundary line and across a.t proposed Hola.bird Avenue. APPLICATION NO. 1432: By Southern California. Telephone Compa.ny for permission to place eight 40 foot poles and one a.:nchor on south side of 25th s:treet. east of Indiana Street. and install approximately forty feet t,wo and one-half inch iron pipe across 26th Street from eastern end of pole lea.d mentioned. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the a.pplications be filed and the permits granted. Motion carried. Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $4831.60 were read. It was m01fed by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the demanda be allowed and warrants dra.wn for the same. Motion. carried. . It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the meeting adjourn.
