19280904 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF A REGULAR :u:EETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF VERNON HEID ON THE 4 th DAY OF SEPTli3rRER, 1928 SAID J4EETING BEING HELD ON THIS DAY OiDTG TO THE FACT THAT MONDAY, THE REGULAR 0- ETING DJJ, WAS A HOLIDAY. - - -- - - ~ - - - - - - - T~e meeting was called to order by the XaTor, J. J. Furlong. Councilmen present were: Leonis, DurDin and Furlong. Counci~en absent were: Kniffin and Levy. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried. A communication from the Tropical Hardwood Company requesting permission to dump solid material for fill on their property adjoining the Los Angeles River, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the matter be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. A communication from the Vernon Industrial Development Association regarding the activities of said association in the City of Vernon was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that same be filed. Motion carried. Application of the Chicago Salvage Company for permit to store second hand oil well supplies at 2241 Ea.st 38th Street, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the permit be denied. Motion carried. A communica.tion from the U. S. Steel Com- pany for permission to haul rubbish from their premises located at 208? East Slauson Avenue to a dump outside the city, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the communication be filed and a permit granted. A communication from the Vernon Paper Stock Company for permission to haul rubbish from their premises at 2800 Alameda Street to the Los Angeles incinerator, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the communication be filed and a permit granted. Motion carried. -1- t15 A communica.tion from the Wm. P. Neil Company for permission to haul rubbish through the Ci ty of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and a permit granted, subject to investigation and approval of the Police Department~ Motion carried. Report of the Railroad Commission with regard to the franchise to the Santa Fe Railroad to cross Ea.st 46th Street was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on the ap- plication of Clyde E. Martin to operate a hamburger stand at Vernon and St. Charles Streets, was read, said report being to the effect that the stand would not comply wi th the r egula:bions of the Ci ty of Vernon and rec ommended that same be denied. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the report of the Polica Department be filed and the application denied. Motion ca.rried. Report of the Police Department on the ap - plication of the O. K. and L. A. Sawdust Company for permi t to haul mste material to the Los Angeles incine- rator, was read - said report being favorable and re- commending that the application be granted. It was moved ~y Leonis, and seconded by Dur- bin that the report be filed and application be granted. Motion carried. At thi s time reques t was made by the Elks of the City of Huntington Park for permit to hold a circus within the city. It was mov ed by Durbin,seconded by Leonis that permit be granted upon the filing of a bond in the sum of On e Hundred (1100.00) Dollar!3, said bond being a guarantee of good faith that the promoters of said circus would leave the lot and pr emises in a cle an and healthy condition and removing all debris therefrom caused by said circus. Motion carried. RESOLUTION EO. 522: A resolution granting jurisdiction to the City of Los Angeles in the matter of the im- provement of a portion of Soto Street. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that Resolution No. 522 granting jurisdict~on to the Ci ty of Los An~eles for the impr ovement of a portion of Boto Street be denied. Motion carried. Repo rt of the Polic e Depar tment on th e general condi tion of the city was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried.
