AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNOli. C AL. The meeting was ca lled to order by the ~or. J. J. Furlong. Levy. Councilmen present were: Durbin, Furlong ~ Councilmen absent were: Kniffin and Leonis. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. It was moved by Durbin, and seconded by Levy that the minu tes be approved as read. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 414: submitted by Los Angeles Junction Railway, an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 368. was read for second reading. It was moved by Levy. seconded by Durbin that Ordinance No. 414 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 414: submitted by Los Angeles Junction Railway, an ordinance amending Ordinance No.368, was read for third and final reading. If; communication from Sears, Roebuck and Company for permit to haul refuse from their warehouse at Loma Vista and Exchange Avenue to a dumping ground outside of the city, was read. A communication from the Suconem Corporation for a permit to conduct business at 3?lO South Alameda Street, for the manufacturing of super-concrete emulsion, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, tba"t the communication be filed, and the Ci ty Clerk be in- structed to notify Swift and Company that the City of Vernon has no jurisdiction in the matter, as this is a private street. Motion carried. A communication from the Los Angeles County Flood Control granting permission to remove riprap on the south bank of the Los Angeles River channel at Soto Street, was read. It was moved by Le~, seconded by Durbin that same be filed. lIotion carried. Circular letter from the Department of Public Health announcing the annual conference of Health Officers at San Bernardino, California, October 8th to 12th, was read _ It Was moved by Durbin, seconded by LeVy that same be filed and referred to the city Health Officer. Motion carried. A communication from the Shields Truck Com- pany for a permit to conduct a trucking business at 5498 Alameda Street, was read. It Was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the per.mit be granted subject to the approval of the City Engineer. Motion carried. Report of the Police De par tmen t on the ap- plication of Eugene Huber to conduct a lunch room on the northwest corner of Leonis and Downey Road, was read. Owing to the lack of facilities for disposal of sewage at this address, the Police Department recommended tha t theapplica tion be denied. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that the application be denied. lIotion carried. A cOllD11unication from the County Assessor of Los Angeles County requesting that the different an- nexation districts of the City of Vernon, hereafter be known as Tax Districts Nos. 1, 2, etc. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that same be referred to the City Attorney. RESOLUTION NO. 524: A resolution designating that the different municipal tax districts in the City of Vernon be known by number only in place, and instead of names which they now are known by. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that Resolution No. 524 be filed.
