FUrlong. Councilmen present were: Furlong. Leonis and Durbin. Councilmen absent were: Kniffin and Levy. Minutes of the previous meeting of October 1st were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced that this was the time and place proitided by law for the canvas- sing of the votes for the annexation election of the "VERNON AJ.ID DOWEEY TERRITORY" held October 3rd, 1928; the council then proceeded to canvass the votes" and after the canvassing thereof, Councilman Leonis introduced RESOLUTION NO. 526: A-. resolution. of the City Council of the City of Vernon declaring the result of a specia.l election held on the 3rd day of October, 1928. Said resolution recited the fact that the proposition for annexation to the City of Vernon was submitted on the said 3rd day of October, 1928; that the total number of votes cast at said election in the territory proposed to be annexed was one - the total number of votes cast therein in favor of annexation was one vote, and the number of votes cast therein aga,inst said annexat ion was none. l:t 'IIvas moved by Leonis, seconded by'Durbin that Resolution No. 526 be adopted. M.otion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 416: An ordinance of the City Council of the city of Vernon.a,pproving the annexation referred to in Resolution No. 526. 'II'lfaJI read for first reading. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that Ordinance No. 416 be passed for first reading. Kotion carried., ORDINANCE NO. 415: Submit ted by the Southern Pac ific Rail- way Company for spur track franchise in alley between 37th and 38th Street, City of Vernon, was read for second reading. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the matter be laid over until the next meeting. Motion carried. Communication from B. D. Forbes re- garding appli cation of Finkelstein Foundry C.o. for permi t to operate on East 27th Street, west of Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Durbin. seconded by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from B. W. Kuhn for per.mit to operate as contractor at 2900 Santa Fe A.venue, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the communication be filed and a per.mit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Ira K. Humphrey M. D. to operate an industrial hospital at 3701 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the communication be filed and per.mit granted. Motion carried. ) Communication from the Los Angeles Motor Coach Company, requesting a permi t for the hauling of refuse through the streets of Vernon to be disposed of at the Los Angeles Railway material yards in Vernon, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the communication be filed and per.mit granted subject to the approval of the Engineering and Police Departments. Motion carried. Communication from Calavo erowers Company, requesting a permit for the hauling of garbage and refuse from their pr emises, 4803 Everett Avenue" was read. . It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the communication be filed and per.mit granted. Motion carried. Communication from the Eastside Printing Company requesting a permit for the hauling of paper scrap from their premises at 4440 East 49th St. was read. -2- tao It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the communication be filed and a permit granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on the application of Nathalie Xydias for permit to operate a restaurant at, 37th and Santa Fe Avenue, was read. Said report recommended that the application be denied for the reason set forth in said report. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the report be filed and the application denied. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on the general condition of the ci ty was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 1636: Standard Pipe and Supply Company to break curb for driveway on Vernon Avenue, was r'ead It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that same be referred to the }layor of said city. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 1637: Globe Grain and Milling Company for building permit for the construction of fish oil storage tanks at 212.4 Ea,st 51st Street. Approximate cost $2160.00, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion callrried.
