The meet ing wa.s called to order by the lfayor,
:T. J. Fttrlong.
Councilmen present VIere: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin
a.nd Levy.
Councilman absent:

Minutes of the prev ious meeting of November 5th,
were read.
A eommunica.tion from the Atlas Mixed Mortar c.ompany,
requesting a. release of bond for re-f'illing of excavation
as they have complied with all the terms of the ordinance,
was read.
At this time the C.ity C1.e~k reported. that the
excavation wa.s filled, and the C"ity Attorney advised the
release of the bond.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the
communica.tion be filed and the City Clerk be instructed to
notify the bonding company tha.t the Atlas Iixed Mortar
Company has complied with all the terms of the ordinance
with reference to the re-filling of' the excavation made
by them. Kot ion carried.
Aq::ommunication from National City Turpent ine Com-
pany regarding the locrating of a. painters raw materia.l
and varnish making industry, on Seco Street, north of East
37th Street. was read.
It was moved by Leonis,. seconded by Durlll:in that
same be referred to the Fire Chief for investigation and
repo.rt. Mot ion carried.
A communication f'rom the Cameo Refrigerator Corp.
for permit and lic ensa to opera.te. a.t 2151 Eaat 51st, was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Kotion carried.
A communica.tion from the Kennedy Name Plate C1)mpany
for permit to haul refuse from 4509 Pacific Blvd. to the
Los Angeles Incinerator, was rea.d.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the
cammunication be filed and permit gr~nted. Motion carried.
.A communication from Swift and Company regarding
the installation o.! a 20.000 gallon steel otl tank upon
their premises, Was read.
It wa.s moved 'by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the
same be referred. to the Foamite Inspector and also the.
Fire Chief. Mot ion carried.

it communication from the Cutler Selective Vending
Yachine Company for a permit to' operate vending machines
in the city of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Durbin. seconded by Levy that same
be referred to a committee of the whole.
Report of the Police De.partment on the application
of the Finkelstein Foundry Company, wa.s rea.d.
It wa,s moved by Leonis. seconded by Durbin that the
matter be referred to the City Attorney for investigation.

The Fire Commission at this time made a report and
reoommended tha.t beginning December 1st. 1928. the salari.es
of the Fire Department, exclusive of the Chief, be at the

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the
recommendation of the Fire Commission be concurred in, and
tIlat beginning December 1st. 1928, and thereafter until the
further order of the Boaxci. the salaries of the firemen
sha.ll be a.s above sta.ted. Motion carried.,
At this time the Fire Commission reported to the Board
that in their opinion, section 8 of' Ordinance No. 410 should
be amended. and Councilman Durbin introduced
ORDINANCE liO. 417: An ordina.nce amending Section 8 of
Ordinance No. 410.
It was moved by DUrbin, seconded by Levy that Ordinance
No. 417 be passed for first rea.ding. Motion carried.
Report of the PoliO' e Department on the genera.1. c:on-
di t ion of' the city wa,s read.
It was moved by Leonis. seconded by Durbin that same
be referred to the Police Commission. Motion carried.

Report of the activities of the Vernon Industrial
Assoc. from December 28. 1927 to and including August 31,
1928. was rea.d.
It V.vas moved by Durbin. seconded by Levy th.at
same be filed. Motion carried.
A.t this time the City Engineer reported that the
cost of the title search on Sot 0 Street. being 54 parcels
of land in all, according to the bid he had from the
Title Insurance and Trust Company would be $500.00.
It was moved by Leorr:is, seconded by Levy that the
Ela.tter be referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney.
Mot ion carried.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for
extension to the city fire alarm system. Motion carried.
Councilman Durbin introduced
RESOLUTION NO. 527: A resolut ion changing the name of
Rolabert Avenue to Washington Street in sa.id Oi ty of Ver-
non, and moved its adoption. It was seconded by Levy
and carried.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin tha.t
the Mayor of the City of Vernon be empovlered and authorized
to appoint a committee to be known as the Street Commission
of the City of Vernon, to consist of four mem.bers of the
City Council. whose duty it will be to supervise and re-
commend to the Board findings for the improvement of the
City Water De.partment and the City Street Department.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
the City Clerk be instructed to immediatel~ communicate
\'[ith all the large users of the City of Los Angeles and
City of Vernon sewer to discontinue the use of said sewer
in 90 days. and tha.t th~ matter of compelling such re-
duction be referred to the special council of the City
of Vernon. Mot ion carried.
