AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY ~VER- NON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENOE, VER- NON, CALIFORJiIA - - - - - - - - - ~ - - - - - - The meet ing was called to order by the ][a,Y'or, J. ;r. li't1r~ong. Councilmen present were: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin and Levy. Councilmen absent were: Kniffin It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leanis that the reading of the minutes of February 18th be dispensed with. Kot ion carried. ~he City Clerk at this time announced that this wa.s the time and place folt the hea.ring an the application of the Southern Califo.rnia Ga.s c.ompany for permit. One 01' the councilmen made the statement that a representa..tive of the Railroad Commission had seen him and the said represen- tativehad stated that the reason for the denial of this application was the recommendation of the engineer to the effeC't that if it wa.s practica~, they should came in on Vernon Avenue, thereby sav ing the pavement of Santa. Fe Avenue. There \'\lere representatives of th~ Southern California Ga.s Company present, and ane repJl'E9sentative of the Sta.ndardPipe Company, and the matter was gone into thoroughly. and the representative from the Gas Company stated that the repoI"t of any friction exist ing/between their company and the City of Vernon was erroneous. lind no one was authorized to make such a. sta.tement, if it wa.s made. and that the city of Vernon always co-operated with them in granting service to the industries of the city, and that they would communicate with the Board in writing to the effect that such statements were groundless. The re- presentative of the Standard Pipe Company spoke at some length to. the Board expressing regrets if any statements that they had made could be construed the way of the re- presentative of the Railroad Commission construed them. and. assured the Board that they have receiyed every as- sistance from them in operating and maintaining their industry. and that they fully appreciate the stand of the City Engineer in trying to protect the surface of Santa Fe Avenue. thereby sav ing the street. He further stated tha.t they would require three serv iees running into their property from Sa.nt.e. Fe Avenue, and the representative of the Gae COmpany then to~d the Board that one senie:e eould be made from Santa Fe Avenue into the,paI'king and a. line could be run parallel. with Santa. Fe A.venue. and the service taken from said line that parallels Santa Fe Avenue;. -1- .. 1-70 At this time Councilman Leonis made a motion that application No. 1755, Southern California. Gas Company, befi.led, and 0. permit to exeavate for servicres as c.mtlined above by- the Gas Company, be issued subject to the approval and inspection of the. City Engineer. Jlotion carried.
