MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOURNED
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON ,HELD ON THE

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J. :E'urlong.
Councilmen present were: Furlong, Leonis and Durbin.
Councilmen absent were: Kniffin and Levy.
At this ttme it was moved by Durbin, seconded by
Leonis that th e reading of the minutes of the previous
meetings be dispensed with. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk presented a deed from the
California Oregon Pap er Company to the Ci ty of Vernon for
street purposes.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that

RESOLUTION NO. 530: A resolution accepting the deed from
the California Oregon Paper Company, be adopted. Motion
carried.
A communication from the Conveyer Company for a per-
mit and license to operate a manufacturing business at
3360 East Slauson Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from South Gate City Chamber of
COTamerce requesting certain data therein contained, was
read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the
communication be filed. Motion carried.
Application from the K and M Pottery C.o. for permit
to dump broken stoneware from their plant at 2318 East 52nd
Street at Fruitland and Soto street, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seoonded by Durbin that the
application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Application by Whiting-Mead Company for permit to haul
refuse over streets of Vernon to be disposed of at Los
Angeles incinerator or to a dump located East of Vernon
city limits, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the
application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Cormnunication from Southern California Iron and Steel
Company regarding sewage disposal for their plant. was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the City
Clerk be instructed to answer said communication and instruct

Application by the Lewis Motor Car Company for permit
to haul refuse to a dump located on East 26th st. was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the
application be filed and permit granted. ,Motion carried.
Communication from the Pacific Oil Tool Co. for permit
and license to operate a general oil tool manufacturing
business at 4439 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Gospel United Messengers Inc.,
for-permit to solicit from door to door for funds, clothing,
food, newspapers, etc. was read.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the
communication be referred to a cormnittee of the whole. Motion
carried.
Application by Haynes Printing Company for permit to
haul waste paper from their plant located at 2266 East 38th
Street to the Los Angeles City Dump, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the
application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
~PPLICATION NO. 1809: By United states Lime Products C~pany
for building permit for the construction of warehouse at
1840 East 25th Street at an approximate cost of *5,000.00
was read.
On the recommendation of the City Engineer that the per-
mit be granted for warehouse purposes only and not for
manufacturing of lime products, it was moved by Durbin and
seconded by Leonis that the application be granted, subject
to the recommendation of the City Engineer. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 1822: By the O. K. Box and Sack Co. for
building permi t for the construction of box warehouse at
3313 East 26th Street at an appEoximate cost of ~300.00
was read.
In this connection the City Engineer recommends that more
complete plans be filed and general conditions around plant
as regards fire hazard be improved and referred the same w
the Fire Chief. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis
tha t the application be filed and p ermi t granted subject to
the conditions and recommendations of the City Engineer.
Motion carried.

APPLICA~ION NO. 1824: By Baash Ross Tool Co. for building
permit for the construction of saw house at 5512 South Boyle
Avenue. Approximate cost ~6000.60.
APPLICATION NO. 1825: By Porter Mirror Company for the in-
stallation of 280 gallon gasoline tank and pump at 4423 East
Fruitland Road. Approximate cost $125.00.
Application by Seaboard Transportation Company for permit and
license to operate a general trucking business at 37th and
Hoss streets.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that all the
foregoing applications be filed and permits granted. Motion
carried.
At this time the Sewer COlmnittee made a report to the
COWlcil - said report being that there was favorable progress
being made with the City of Los Angeles in regard to the sewer
relief.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the report
be received and filed. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 531: A resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon adopting plans and specifi ca tions f or the
improvement of 57th Street and a portion of Second street
in the City of Vernon from Santa Fe Avenue to a line ten feet
easterly from and parallel with the easterly line of Alameda
Street, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that Resolution
No. 531 be.adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 532: A resolution of the City Council of the
City of~ernon approving map of an assessment district fbr the
improvement of 57th street and a portion of Second Street from
Santa Fe Avenue to a line ten feet easterly from and parallel
with the easterly line of Alameda Street, was read.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
Resolution No. 532 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 533: A resolution of the
City Council of the City of Vernon declaring their intention
to order certain work and improvement to be made as herein-
after set forth and describing the district to be assessed to
pay the cost of said improvement, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
Resolution of Intention No. 533 be adopted. Motion carried.
R~port of the Police Department on the general condi-
tions of the ci~ was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that the
matter be referred to the Police Commission. Motion carried.
Demands on the general fund in the sum of 17,896.15 was
read. Said demands being itemized as follows:
