Councilmen present: Durbin, Leonis, Furlong Councilmen absent: Kniffin, Levy It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis tha.t the rea.ding of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Mot ion ca.rried. At this time the City C~erk announced that this was the time and place for hearing of protests on the spreading of the a.ssessment for the opening and widening of Magnolia Avenue. Written protests had been received .by him from Hugh Eva.ns &: Company, Union Pa.cific Company and W. I. Hollingsworth &: Company. A. representative of the Union Pacific Company addressed the Board on said a.ssess- ment and a.sked that same go over for two weeks. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the hearing of protests on the assessment for the opening and widening of Sla.uson and Magnolis Avenue be c6n.tinued to JUly 15, 1.929, at eight o'clock P. RESOLUTION NO. 537 , a resolution p,rov iding that bonds may be. issued to represent a.ssessments for the cost and expense of opening a.nd extending Magnolia Avenue a.nd widening Sla.uson Avenue in said oity, and moved its adoption, which wa.s sec- onded by COUDcilman Leonis, and carried. Communication from Harry cr. eollins, 2411 East 26th Street, for pemit and license for agency for the Fate Root Health COmpany, manufacturers of g$soline and Diesel loc:o- motives. was read.. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the com- ~ication 'be filed and the permi t ~anted. Motion carried. CommuniCation from Harry a. Collins for a permit to haul refuse from p;remises at 2411 East 26th Street, to be dis- posed of at an authorized dump, was read. Moved by Leonis, seoonded by Durbin, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Approximate cost $1800.00. Application 1952: by California Fire Proof Door Company for permit to build incinerator. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on the applica- tion of C. S. Miller for nermit to sell ice cream on the public streets of Vernon ;"as read. ~'he Police Department recommended that the application be denied, as it would be a violation of Ordinance 203. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, tllat the re- port of the Police Department be filed and the recommenda- tion concurred in. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on the applica- tion of the Musto-Keenan Company for a permit to haul waste material through the city of Vernon was read. The Police Department recommended that a temporary permit should be issued pending.the improvement of Soto Street. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the report of the Police Department be filed and the recommenda- tion concurred in. Motion carried. Demands on the general funds in the sum of $7,242.08 were read, said total consisting of the following items: Sala.ries Expense Advances $4,267.70 2,588.26 386.12 Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. At this time B.. request was made of the Council to donate for promotion purposes to the Eastside Organization, $500.00, said money to be used in the promotion of the inter- ests of the City of Vernon. It wa.s moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that a warrant be drawn from the funds appropriated for that purpose and paid to the Eastside Organiza.tion. Ilotion ca.xried..
