The meet ing wa.s called to order by the Mayor,
j. .I. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Furlong
Councilmen a.bsent: Kniffin
:Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the read-
ing of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
ORDIN.ANCE NO. 425, an ordinance fixing the rate
of taxes in the city of Vernon for the year 1929-]930 was
read for second reading.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that Ordinance
No. 425 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 425, an ordinance fixing the rate
of taxes in the city of Vernon for the year 1929-1930 wa.s
rea.d for third and final reading.
It wa.s moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
Ordinance No. 425 be adopted. Motion carried by the follow-
ing vote:
Ayes: Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Furlong
Noes: None
Absent: Kniffin
ORDINANCE NO. 426, an ordinance prohibiting the
distribution of advertising matter in the city of Vernon
was read for second reading.
:Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that Ordinance
No. 426 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.

Ordinance No. 425 be adopted. :Motion carried by the follow-
ing vote:

Noes: None
Absent: Kniffin
The following applications, all having the approval
of the City Engineer, were read:
Application 2020: by john o. Gansoff, for a permit to con-
struct fences and feeding sheds on the p~operty formerly
occupied by the Mox Wrecking Company, at a cost of $7500.00.

Appliea.tion 2021: by Hickman Bros., for permit to install
a. 2000 ga..llon tank on school property at an approxiI1'J&te
cost of $300.00.
Applica.tion 2022: by Abner Miller, for permit to remodel
a. machine shop. Cost $1000.00.
Application 2023: by ~f'ewa.y stores, Inc., for permit to
make sewer connections.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
a.pplications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Cammunication from Swift & Company for a permit
to haul refuse from their plant to the City dump was rea.d.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the ap-
plica.tion be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Applica.tion of the Gabe Leav,y Iron Works, Inc.
for permit to haul rubbish from their plant to the Florence
Avenue dump was read.
It wa.s moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, tha.t the
application be. filed and the permit granted. Motion ca.rried.
Applica.tion of Wm. C. Daniels to haul refuBe for
some of his customers who have only a small quantity of
rubbish to haul, and at uncertain periods, was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the ap-
plication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
There being no further business, it was moved by
