MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF
TEE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF
VERNON, HELD ON TEE 16TH DAY OF
SE:l?TEMBER, 1929, AT THE C lIT HALL
OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA
FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.
The meeting was called to order by the Oi t.y Clerk
who stated that" owing to the absence of the Mayor, it would
be necessary to elect a Chairman pro tem for the evening.
Councilman Leonis was nominated and elected as Chairman pro
tam.

It wa.s moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion ca.rried.
Communication from Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Railway Company, requesting a correction to be made in de-
scription in Ordinance 423, adopted July 1, 1929, for cross-
ing Chambers Street at 49th Street, was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that
the communication be filed and the correction a.s suggested
be approved. Motion carried.
Notice of hearing before the Railroad Commission
October 1, 1929J~ at ten o'clock A. M., on the matter of
the Associated .Meat Company VB. Southern California Gas Com-
pany. was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the
notice be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from E. A. Key Company, for permit
and license to operate a retail merchandising business at
2814 Santa Fe Avenue~ was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the com-
munication be filed and the permit granted.
Communica.tion from A.X. Tomojan, Reliable Shoe Store,
at 4539 Produce Plaza, requestingb;i.slicense to be reduc~d.tlrom $5.00
per month to $1.00 per month, was rea.d.
Moved by Durbin a.nd seconded by Levy that the com-
munication be filed. Motion ca.rried.
Communication from the Los Angeles Fertil~er Co.,
with copy of letter sent to Board of Supervisors rega.rding
condition of Harriett Street, between East 25th Street and
East 26th Street. was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that
the matter be referred to the City Engineer, who was in-
structed to communicate wi ththe Board of Public Works in
regard to same. Motion carried.
Communication from the Los Angeles Cotton Oil Co.,
requesting information as to the possibility of improving

Communication from the Mail Pouch Distributing Co.,
requesting permit to distribute sample packages of tobacco

Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the mat-
ter be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
Communication from the Wayne Company, Boyle Da.yton
Division, requesting permission to remove a one-thousand gallon
distillate storage tank to their new location, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
communication be laid over. Motion carried.
