19291125 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MDlUTES OF AN AD.TOtJRNED REGULAR M&~- ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD ON THE 25TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1929, at 8: 00 P. M., AT THE city h&11 of the city of vernon, 4305 SAND FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.' ~ ~ - ~ - - - - - - - - - - - - - ~ ~ The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, .T. J.. Furlong. Councilmen present: Durbin, Leonis, Furlo.ng, Levy Councilmen absent: Kniffin It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. A.t this time the City Clerk announced that this was the time and place for the opening of bids for the paving of Soto street Bridge. in accordance with the Notice Inviting SeaJ.ed 1?roposals, and announced that he. had on his desk three bids. It was moved by Leonis, and seconded by Durbin, that the City Clerk open and publiclyreaa the bids. Motion carried. At t'-is time the City Clerk read the bids of' George H. OawaJ.d, Las Angeles Paving Company and. the Griffith Compa.ny. After inspection on the part. of the City Engineer, who an- nounced that the bid of the Griffith Company was the lawest and best bid, it was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that all bids by rejected and bonds returned with the exception of the bid of the Griffith Company and said bid of the Griffith Company be ac:cepted and the City Attorney instructed to draw a contract with the Griffith Company pursuant to Notice Invit- ing Sealed ProposaJ.s and their bid. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced that he l1a.d a. bid of the American Nationa.l Company upon his desk for the purchase of the Magnolia. and Slauson opening and widening bonds. It _as moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the Cit.y Clerk be instructed to open and read the bid. Motion carried. At this time, the bid being read and the offer for all bonds was the face value, it was moved by Durbin and seconded b.y Levy, tha.t the bid of the American National Co. be accepted and that the bonds be sold as per their bid, they to have a reasonable time in Which to eKa.llline said bonds as to their legality. Motion c:arried. Ordinance No. 428, an ordina.nce ordering condemna- t ion of certain property nec:essary to comp1ete the East 26th Street storm dra.in, wa.s read for second reading. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonie that Ordinance No. 428 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. -1- Ordinance No. 428, an ordinanc$ ordering condemna- tion of certain property necessary to complete the East 25th Street storm drain was read for third and final rea.d.ing. It was moved by Durbin and seconded 'by Leonis that Ordinance No. 428 be passed ~or third and final reading. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the communication be filed and the permit granted. Communication ~rom the Superbo Manufacturing Co. requesting a permit to haul re~use from it s premises a.t 5625 Yagnol.ia Avenue, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the communication be ~iled and the permit granted. The following applications, all having the ap- proval of the City Engineer, were read.: Application 2148: of' Killefer Manufacturing Co. for building permit for the construction of office roam and watchman's house at 5525 Downey Road.. A.pproximate cast $900.00. ~plication 2149: of Whiting Mead Company for permit to demol.ish ~ive wooden structures of Vernon School at Vernon and Santa Fe Avenue.. ~tl1ication 2150: of Universal Engineering Co. for pexmitto ill8tall. 550 gallon gasoline tank and pumps 2369 East 51st Street. A.pproximarte cost $250.00. Application 2152: or Southern California Gas Co. for permit to lay gas main in East 26th street, west from a. point 1869 feet west of Indiana Street. Exea.vation to be 150 feet l.ong. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the app1.1cations be filed and the permit s granted. Application 2151: of Hercules Gasoline Compmy for permit to erect a 2500 barrel fuel oil tank a.t 2411 East ~Oth Street, a.t an approximate cost of $2500.0Q, wa..s read. The City Engineer recommended that the applica- tion be referred to H. H. Isa.a.cs, foamite inspec.tor. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, tha.t Applicatio.n 2151 be referred to f'oa.mite inspector H. R. Isaacs for investigation and report. Motion carried.
