Councilmen present: Councilmen absent : Levy, Leonis, Furlong Kniffin, Durbin It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. ORDINANCE 110. 431, an Ordinance regulating motor vehicles in the City of Vernon, was read for second reading. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that Ordinance No. 431 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 431, an Ordinance regulating motor vehicles in the City of Vernon, was read for third and final reading. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that Ordinance No. 431 be adopted. Motion carried by the follow- ing vote: Ayes: Levy, Leonis, Furlong Noes: None Absent: Kniffin, Durbin Communication from the Department of Public Works, regarding the East 26th Street storm drain, was rea.d. It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Levy, that same be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Mo- tion carried. C~unication from the Southern California Edison company was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the same be referred to the Finance Committee for report. Motion carried. Communication from the Los Ange~es Gas & Electric Corporation, suggesting an amendment to the plumbing ordinance, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Leonis, that the same be referred to a Committee of the ~~10le. Motion carried. Communication from H. H. Helbush & Company, regard- ing a motor truck wrecking yard on property located on the north side of East 25th Street, was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Leonis, that the same be referred to a Committee of the Whole. Motion ca.rried. -~- Communication from the Taylor-Travers Corporation. requesting permit and license to operate. a manufacturing and assembling plant at 2269 East 51st Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, see onded by Levy, that the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion ca.rried. Communication from .Tohn O.~'fykoff for permit and license to operate a barber shop at 3939 Soto Street was read. It was moved by Leoni s, sec onded by Levy, ~at the communication be filed a.nd the permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from National Audit & Appraisal Co., regarding the submitting of bid for auditing, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Leonis, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the Department of Commerce, Wash- ington, regarding City 'Planning and Zoning, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the same be filed. Motion carried. A circular letter from the Plumbing Inspectors Asso- c iati on was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the City Attorney approving payment of judgments to: Jacob Lowenstein Guaranty Trust Company of New York Hampo-Ajax Corporation Hickey Pipe & Supply Company California Trust Company Pacific Electric Railway Company Weaver Henry Corpora.tion in connection with the widening and opening of Magnolia and Slauson Avenue, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the communication be filed and warrants drawn for the respective smounts. Motion ca.rried. The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: App1icati~n 2214: of A. A. Gast for permit ~o erect an electric sign at 4401 Downey Road. Approximate cost ~200.00. Application 2215: of Consolidated Rock Products Company for building permit for the construction of garage and re~ir build- ing at 26th and Alameda Street. Approximate cost $3800.00. ~t~ication 2216: if Ira P. Lamb for permit to install a 550 gallon gasoline tank at 4309 Fruitland Road for Sperry Flour Mills. Approximate cost $190.00. Application 2217: of W. J". Hamilton for permit to install a 550 gallon ga,soline tank and pump at 3825 Santa Fe Avenue. Ap- proximate cost $148.00. A:pp1ication 2218: of Killefer Manufacturing Company for build- ing :Qermit to construct a foremans house at 5525 Downey Road. Application 2221: of Pacific Coast Glass Company for build- ing permit for the construction of warehouse at Boyle and Slauson Avenue. Approximate cost $24,000.00. ApI?lication 2222: of E. D. Luther for permit to connect sewer at 2324 East 37th Street. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the ap- p1icationsbe filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on general condi- tions of the city was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Leonis, tha.t the same be filed. Motion ca.rried. Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $7,016.75 were rea.d, said total consisting of the following items: Pa.y Roll and salaries :Expenses Advances Trust llefunds $4,371.58 1,767.67 872.50 5.00 It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasurer for the same.
