M. AT THE CITY IIALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. ]'urlong. Councilmen present: Councilmen absent: .. Durbin, Leonis, Levy, Furlong Kniffin . It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the readJ.ng of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis- pensed with. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced that this was the time and place. for the canvass of the vote of the election held in Municipal Improvement District No. 2 on March 25, 1930, and, this being the first regula.r meeting of the City Council of the Ci~y of Vernon after the elec- tion held in said Municipal Improvement District No. 2. on March 25, 1930, the City Clerk lay before the Council the returns of said election and thereupon the City Council op.ened and proceeded to canvass said returns, and upon said canvass found the following result a.nd ordered the City Clerk to enter same on the records of the Council: 1. The elect ion was held as prov ided by law and by Ordinance No. 433. 2. The whole number of votes cast at said elect ion was four. 3. The number of votes cast at said election in favor of the proposition voted upon thereat was four. 4. The number of votes cast at said election against the proposition voted upon thereat wa.s none. It apIJea.ring from the canva.ss of said returns of said election that two-thirds of all the votes cast thereat were in favor of the proposition voted upon, there- upon Councilman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION NO. 580,& Resolut i on declaring the result of sa.id election. andimoved it s a.dopt ion, which was duly seconded by Councilman Levy, and passed and adopted by the fOllowing vote: A.ye s : Noes: Absent: Durbin, Leonis, Levy, Furlong None Kniffin At this time the Clerk announced tha.t this was the time and place for open.ing bids for a road grader, as set forthtn the Notice advertising for bids, a.nd that he had &. bid of the SheJherd Tra.ctor & Equipment Co. on his desk. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the Clerk be authorized and instructed to open the bid. Motion carried. The Clerk then read the bid of the Shepherd Tractor &: Equipment Co., wherein it bid t695.00 for one standard Russell Caterpillar road grader No.2. The City Enginee.r being -1- :~20 present, recommended that the bid of the Shepherd Tractor & Equipment Co. be accepted. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy. that the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in and that the City Attorney be instructed to write a contract for the purchase of said equipment in a.ccordance with said bid. Motion carried. Application of the Santa Fe Railway for a spur track crossing on East 26th Street to serve the Pennzail property was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Oammunication from Henry H. Huntington, attorney at law, regarding a proposition concerning the collection of market refuse in the city of Vernon was re.ad. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Cammunica.tion from ~ohn Oganesoff, requesting tha.t the reataurant license of Joe Bozigian be tranaferred to h~ was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, tha.t the communica- tion be filed and the request granted. Communication from Kahn & Sibley requesting permit to opera.te a lunch counter at 2042t East Vernon Avenue was read. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy., that the same be referred to the Police Department for invest igation and report. Motion carried. Communication from the Arora Products Co., requesting permit to haul refuse from its premisee at 5300 Santa Fe Ave. wae rea.d. Moved by Leonie, eeconded by Durbin, that the coimnunica- tion be filed and the permit granted. Communications received from the following firms for permit s to haul refuse from their premises were read: Grant Oil Tool Company u. ~. Lemelle Produce Terminal 204&. East Vernon Ave. 2042B East Vernon Ave. 4549 Produce Plaza Moved by Leonie, seconded by Durbin, that the com- munications be filed and the permits granted. Motion carried. A copy of the applicat.ion of the Los Angeles Railway Campany before the Railroad Commission was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the same be apJ1Z'oved. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion carried. Communication from U. :r. Lemelle for permit to wreck building at 2040 East Vernon Avenue and to move material away, and to move the house from 2040B East Vernon Avenue, was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the permit be granted. Motion carried. Application 2261: of the Sunset Pacific Oil Company for build- ing permit for the construction of a service station on the southea.s~ corner of Vernon and Soto Street, at an approximate cost of $1500.00, was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, tha.t the same be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion ca.rried. Communication from the Well Equipment Development and Manufacturing Company for a temporary permit to conduct experi- mental work at the premises at 2501 East B2nd Street was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the request be filed and the permit granted.
