MINUTES OF THE REGULAR l1EETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD
ON THE 21ST DAY OF APRIL, 1930, AT 8 ~ 00
P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON, 43-05 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON,
CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, 3'". J".

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
At this ttme the City Clerk announced that he had
on his desk the returns of the municipal election held on
April 14, 1930, and that this was the time and place fixed
by law for the canvass of the same.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that the Council
proceed to canvass the votes cast at the election held on
April 14, 1930. Motion carried.
The votes cast at said election held on April 14,
1930, were canvassed and Resolution No. 585, a resolution
declaring the result s of said election, was int roduced by
Councilman Levy, who moved its adoption. Seconded by Council-
man Durbin, and carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that he had
bids on his desk from several contra.ctors, pursuant to not ice
inviting sealed proposals for the improvement of East 26th
street.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the City
Clerk open the bids. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk opened and publicly
declared bids from the followin~ firms: Geo. R. Curtis
company; L. A. Paving Co. (Inc. J; Geo. H. Oswell; l'he. Griffith
Company.
All bids were referred to the City Engineer for
checking and report, and the engineer immediately reported that
the bid of the L. A. Paving Co. (Inc.) wa.s the lowest and best
bid, and recommended that all bids, except the bid of the L. A.
Paving Co. (Inc.) be rejected, and that said company be awarded
the contracti
I.t this time Councilman Levy introduced Resolution.
No. 586, a Resolution awarding the contract to the L. A. l'avJ:.ng
Co. (Inc.), and moved its adoption, which was seconded by
Councilman Durbin and carried by the following vote:

. At this time the City Attorney, pursuant to in-
struct~ons from the City Council, presented Reso~ution No
.~87, a Resolution changing the name of Junior Street to .
East 46th Street.
. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by
Resolut~on No. 587, a Resolution changing the
Junior street to East 46th street be adopted.

At this time the City Clerk presented an ease-
ment submitted by the Griffith Company to the City of Vernon
for the use of a portion of land for a spillway on the East
26th St I'eet st orm Drain.
Counc.ilman Durbin introauced Resolution No. 588,
a. Resolution accepting said easement, and instructing the
C1.ty Clerk to record same, which was seconded by Councilman
Levy, and carried.

Notice of hearing before the Railroad Commission
on M~ 20, 1930, in the matter of Batchelder Wi~son Company
vs. Southern California Gas Co. was read.
Moved by Le~~. seconded by Durbin, tha.t the same
by filed. Motion carried.
Order of extension of time before the Railroad
Commission in the matter of the a.pplication of the Southern
Pacific Company for an order authorizing the construction of
grade of a spur track across a.l~ey between 37th and 38th,
Irving and Ross Streets, was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
Communicat ion from the Grea.t Atlantic and 1?ac ific
Tea Company for permit and license to conduct business at
4527 Loma Vista Avenue, was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the com-
munication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Cook Heat Treating Company
for permit and license to operate a commercial heat treating
plant at 3334 East Sla.uson Avenue, was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, tha.t the com~
munication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Universal Wood Products Co.
for permit and license to conduct a furniture manufacturing
business at 220~ Ea.at 5~st street; also, a permit to haul
shavings to a.n incinerator, was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same
be referred to the City Engineer. Motion ca.rried.
Communica.tion from Charles G. Kawin Company for
permit to opera.te a. commercial chemist laboratory at 3200
East Slauson Avenue, was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the communica-
tion be fi~ed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
