MINUTES OF THE. REGULAR MIDETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF ~HE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD ON THE 19TH DAY OF MAY, 1930, AT
9: 00 P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE' AVENUE,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Counc ilmen present: Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Furlong
Councilman absent: Knif'fin
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, t)lat
the re.ading of the Minutes af the previous meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 435, a fra.nchise ordinance of the
Santa Fe Railway Company for permission to lay spur track
across East 26th street, to serve Pennzoil property, W&Ii
read for second reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
Ordinance Ho. 435 be J)&ssed for second reading. }lotion
carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 435, a franchise ordinance of the
Santa Fe Railway Company for permission to lay spur track
acrose East 26th Street, to aerve Pennzoil property, was
read for third and final reading.
It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Durbin. that
Ordinance No. 435 be adopted. Mot ion carried by the follow-

RESOLUTION NO. 590, a Resolution of the City
Council accepting a grant deed from J. c. Black a.nd Everett B.
Thomas, was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the same
be adopted and the City Clerk inatructed to have same recorded.

Communication from C. J. Burnside, notifying of
change of manager in restaurant located at 2022 santa Fe, was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Charles F. Hartung, regarding
pavement at Santa Fe Avenue a.nd Slauson Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
communication be filed and the City Clerk be instructed to
notify the writexthat this property was in Huntington Park.

the communication be re~erred to the Police Department and
that the request be granted and done under the supervision
of the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles Broom Company for
permit to operate a broom factory at 2431 East 26th Street
was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the camnunication be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from Frank D. Allen and Ernest .Tones
:for permit to conduct a mara.thon dance in the old Doyle
Boxing Arena, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the communication be :filed and the matter referred to the
Committee of the Whole. Motion carried.
Communication from Walter Paulus for permit and
license to operate an a.cetylene and electric welding shop
at 2904 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed a.nd the permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication :from George D. Wells for permit
to operate an insurance office at 4317 Downey Roa.d was rea.d.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carri ed.
Communication from the Illinois Pa.cific Gla.ss Co.
for permit to haul refuse from its premises over the streets
of the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the application be filed a.nd the permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from the Los Angeles Broom Co.,
requesting permit to haul refuse from its premises at 2431
East 26th Street, \7a8 read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the ~ommunication be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carr! ed.
Communication from the Fields Chemical Company,
requesting permit to operate a small demonstration oil still
in the ya.rd of Standard Boiler Works, 5001 Boyle Avenue, was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed and the matter referred to the
Police and Fire Chiefs for investigation and report. :Motion

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
same be referred to the Po~ice Department. Motion carried.

was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that

for addition to warehouse at 3275 East Slauson Avenue. A.p-

a medical service hospital at 3701 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
communica.tion be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried.
Reque st of the Polie e Department that A. \1(. Hayne 6
be appointed a.s motor cycle officer at a salary of $1'75.00 per
month, in place of R. L. Keating, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the
appointment of A. W. Haynes as motorcycle officer, at a salary
of $l'75.00 per month, be approved. Motion carried.
Map of Tract No. 9837, submitted by the County of Los
Angeles Planning Commission for approval.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the
map of Tra.ct No. 9837, submitted by the County of Los Angeles
Planning Commission be approved. Yot ion carried.
