MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOURNED MEET-
ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON, CALIFORNIA, HELD ON
AUGUST 19, 1930, at 7:30 O'CLOCK
P.M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
.r. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Leonis, Durbin, Levy,
Furlong
Councilmen absent: Martin
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin
that the reading of the Minutes of the previous
meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried.
At this time Councilman Levy introduced
Ordinance No. 436, an Ordinance of the City of Vernon
levying rate per centum for all municipal taxes,
including bonds and interest thereon, for the fiscal
year 1930-1931 and moved that it be passed for first
reading, which was seconded by Councilman Durbin
and carried.
At this time Counci~n Durbin introduced
Ordinance No. 437, an Ordinance calling a special
election to be held in the City of Vernon on the lOth
day of September, 1930, for the purpose of submitting
to the qualified voters of said city the proposition
of incurring a debt in the sum of Three Million
Nine Hundred Thousand ($3,900,000.00) Dollars for the
acquisition, construction and completion of a certain
revenue-producing municipal improvement, to-wit:
works for generating, transmitting and distributing
electricity for supplying said City and its
inhabitants with light, heat and power and moved that
it be passed for first reading, which was seconded
by Councilman Leonis and carried.
Ordinance No. 437 was read for second reading.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis that
Ordinance No. 437 be passed fb:e second reading. Motion

Ordinance No. 437 was read for third and final
reading. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis
that Ordinance No. 437 be adopted. Motion carried with
the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen Durbin, Levy, Leonis and
Furlong
NOES: None
ABSENl' :Martin
At this time the Ci ty Attorney requested more
time to look into the matter of the liability of the
City for reckless driving of motor vehicles by the
employees. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin

that the City Attorney be granted more time. Motion
carried.
APPLICATION 2393: of the National Packing
Company for a building permit to erect a canopy over
some of its pens in its yard, was read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin
that the application be filed and permit granted.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin
that this meeting adjourn until sa August 25th, 1930,
at 8:00 o'clock P.M. Motion earried.
