MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF TEE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
CALIFORNIA, HELD ON SEPTID~ 2, ~930,

OF VERl'rON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON,
CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
:T. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Durbin, Leonis, Furlong
Councilmen absent: Martin, Levy
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonie, that
the rea.ding of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
At tl;Iis time the City Clerk announced that this
wa.s the time and place set in the l'rotice Inviting Sealed
Proposals or' bids for the improvement of East 54th Street,
and that he had four bids upon his desk.
It wa.s moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the Clerk open and read the bids. Motion carried.
The City C~erk then read the bids of the follow-
ing firms:

It was moved by Leonis, sec'onded by Durbin, that
a.ll bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and
report. Motion ca.rried.
A communication from the tlNeighborhood Housett at
1320 Wilson Street, regarding water in the gravel pit upon
the property near Alameda and 25th Street, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
be matter be referred to the City Attorney for reply. Mo-
tion carried. '
A communication from the First National Bank, of
Vernon, requesting the City to pass or adopt a new Resolu-
tion authorizing the bank to honor certain signa.tures, was
read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonie, that
the communication be filed. Mot ion carried.

At this time Councilman Durbin introduced Resolu-
tion No. 600, a resulution authorizing the First National
Bank of Vernon to honor checks drawn by J. :T. Furlong, Mayor;
T. :T. Furlong, City Clerk; and F. G. French, City Treasurer,
and moved its a.doption, which was seconded by Councilman
Leonis, and carried.

It was maved by Durbin, secanded by Lea.nis, that
the communicatian be filed and the permit gra.nted. Matian
carried.
Cammunicatian fram the American Legian, Vernon
Pas.t, requesting permissian to. place candy vend.ing machines
in the city af Vernan, was read.
It was maved by Durbin, secanded by Leanis, that
the matter be re~erred to. the Cammittee af the Vlhale. Ma-
t ian carried.
The Fire Cammissian af the City af Vernan reparted
that it ha.d appainted L. C. Newman to. replace J"ahn Naertri,
and C. P. Hamiltan to. replace L. C. Newman, a.s va.catian relief
man in the Fire Department, and requested the Cauncil to. ap-
prave the appoinuents.
It was moved by Durbin, secanded by Le ani s , that
the appaintments be approved. Matian carried.
