THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,

1:he meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J. Furlong.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
reading of the lvlinutes of the prev ious meet ing be dispensed
with. Mot ion carried.
The City J;!inginee.r reported on the application of
the Atchison, Topeka /;:; Santa Fe for a. spur track to the
lI'il trol Company.
ORDINANCE NO. 440, an Ordinance granting to the
Atchison, 'l'opeka.& Santa Fe Railway Company a franchise
for a spur track, was read. for first reading.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
Ordinance No. 440 be passed for first reading. Motion
carried.
Communicat ion from the Department of Public
Works regarding the oouth Central business district storm
drain system was read.
It was moved by lv'Iartin, seconded by Durbin, that
the matter be referred to the City Engineer. :Motion carried.
Communication from the United States Post Office
Department regarding the f~ing of the old City Hall build-
ing, now uaed as a branch post office, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from the National Packing Company,
stat ing that they are willing that the Vernon Avenue Storm
Drain be built, was read.
It wa.s moved by Martin, seconded: by Durbin, that
the communication be filed. Motion carried.
CQmmunication from the Union Packing Company,
stating that they would not be a party to a.ny protest against
the construction of the Vernon Avenue Storm Drain, WillS read.

the communication be filed. :Motion carried.
Communication from Gornelius Brothers, Ltd., sta.t-
ing that they will accept any decision of the L;ity Uouncil
in regard to the construct ion of the Vernon Avenue Storm
Drain, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that
the communication be filed. Motion car:ried.

Communication from the Associated Meat Company,
stating that they wish to go further into the matter of
the Vernon Avenue Storm Drain, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that
the cOlmnunication be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Woodward Bennett Uompany,
sta.ting that they would prefer to wait for better busi-
ness conditions before the construction of the Vernon
Avenue storm Drain was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Mart in, that
the communication be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from the League of California
Municipalities regarding relief of the unemployed wa.s read.
It was moved by Martin, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed. Motion carried.
Connnunicat ion from !l. .E. Dean regarding the pro-
posed. power plant was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Martin, that
the communication be referred to the City Engineer. Mot ion
ca.rried.
Circular letter from the Lynwood Chamber of. Com-
merce regarding a meeting of the Metropolitan Water Dis-
trict to be hel.d a.t Compton on November 15th, 1930, was read.
It was moved by Martin, seconded by Durbin, that
the letter be filed. Mot ion carried.
Connnunications from the following firms requesting
permits to haul refuse from their premises in the city of
Vernon were rea.d:
Sterling Chemical Co., 3263 East 26th st.
Vernon Paper Stock Co., 2.800 Santa. Fe Ave.
L. Kauffman Co., East Vernon Ave., hear Soto.

communications be filed and the permits granted. Motion
carried.
Communica.t ion from the Hunt ingt on Park Chamber of
Commerce and Retail Merchants Bureau requesting permission
for the Gentry Brothers Circus to hold a circus in Vernon
for one day wa.s read. Representat ives were preaent and further
requested that the ordinance fixing the license be set aside,
otherwise, they v~ould not be interested in the permit.

the communica.tion be filed and the permit denied.. Motion

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that
