THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON, CALIFORNIA. HELD ON MONDAY,

The meeting was called to order by the Mqar,
:T. :T. Fur~ong.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the reading of the M.inutes of the prev ious meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
Report of the General Petrolemn Corporat ion on
the franchise granted by the County of Los Angeles under
Ordinance No. 781, was read.
It was moved by Martin, seconded by Leonis, that
the same be filed. Mot ion carried.
. Circular letter from George Grover, City Clerk of
San Jacint 0, California., regarding dairymen of Southern
California, wa.s read.
It was moved by .l.\Ila.rtin, seconded by Durbin, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Isador Shapiro, regarding ap-
plication for the conducting of smelting and refining plant
at 5332 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by .Martin, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed. Motion carried.
Communica.tion from the Kay 1tla.chinery Company, re-
questing permit and license to operate a machinery sa.1.es
business at 2900 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Martin, that
the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from the Beeson Engineering Company,
requesting permit and license to opera.te a business o.f
manufa.cturers t and contract ors I machinery refi nary equipment,
at 2501 East 52nd Street, was read..
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin. that
the communication be filed and the permit granted. M.ot ion
carried.
Communlcat ion from Judd Brothers for permit and
~ieense to conduct a truck transportation business at 3660
50to Street, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that
the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carried.

It was moved by Leonis, . seconded by Martin, that
the communicat ions be filed and the permits granted. Mot ion
carried.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the firm of Bordwell, Mathews & W$dsworth be retained as
associate counsel to pass upon the specifica.tions and con-
tracts for the ereet ion 0.1" mac.hinery in the proposed light
and power plant, at a fee of $1500.00. Mot ion carried..
Report of the Water Department was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by ~~tin, that the
report be filed. Mot ion carried.
Rep.ort of the Police Department on the general condi-
tions of the city was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by l\i.lartin, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
At this time Mr. Durbin informed the Council that
.Mr. Levy was still ill and unable to perform his duties as
councilman, a.nd recommended that he be given a three months'
leave of absence, which was seconded by Councilman Martin,
a.nd carried.
At this time the City Engineer presented a letter
to the City Counc iI, wherein he sta.ted tha.t he had exceeded
his a.ppropriation for Mr. Heinz in the preliminary studies
for the proposed power plant in the sum of $200.00, and tha.t
of Mr. Kingsbury in the sum of $300.00, and asked the Council
to approve this expenditure and authorize the payment thereof.
It wa.s moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the communication of the City Engineer be filed a.nd the ax-
penditur-es a.uthorized by the Engine er be approved and warrants
drawn for the same. Motion carried.
Communication from the Reo-Dennis. Co., Inc. J for
permit to op.e.rate a lot for the display of used trucks', at
3660 Sliit 0 Street, was read.
