Councilmen present: Counci1men absent: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Martin Levy It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that . the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis- pensed with. J[ot ion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced that this' was the time and place for the opening of bids for the furnish- ing of a deep well pump for the City, and that he had re- ceived two bids, one from Layne & Bowler Corporation and one frQlll Peerless Pump Company. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the Clerk open the bids. Mot ion carried. At this time the Ci ty Clerk publicly opened and declared bids from the following firms: ~ne & Bowler Corp~&tion Peerless l!Ump Company It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Communication from Union Pacific System, regarding installat ion of 10. water line ac:roslit the right of way near' Fruitl.and Aveny.e, was. r'ea.d. A certain easement relating to construct ion of' stor.m drain upon Railway'S ~ight of way between 26th and 27th Streets by the Atc11ison, Topeka. & Santa Fe Railway Company, was presented. The Raieil.way Company stated that they have never received the original. easement and are offering dupl.i- cate for execut ion. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the same be rei"'erred to the City Attorney. Hotion carried. An. order of the Railroad Commission, instituting in- vestigation and order to show cause in the matter of grade crossing of Magnolia Avenue aeross certain traeks of Los Angeles &: Salt Lake Railwa.y Company, was read. -1- 40 It was moved by Martin, seconded by Durbin, that the same be filed. Communicat ion from Frank L. Shaw, Uhairman of the Committee on Employment, Dos Angeles County, was read. It was moved by :Martin, seconded by Durbin, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Conn:nunieat ion from H. H. Isaaas, Foamite Inspecrl or of the City, regarding the Richfield Oil Company's storage tanks, wherein he requested that a permit be. granted the Richfield Oil Company to discontinue their foamite system, as they now have no gasoline or oils of high flash paint in the yards, as read. It was moveel by Durb in, seco nd ed by Leonie, tha.t the communication be filed and the request gra.nted. Ckmmunication fr~m the Rieger Hay Company, request- ing permission to operate on property of Vernon Feed &: llill- i ng C ompa.ny, was read. Communication from the Non-Corrosive Company, Ltd.. 2146 Ea.st 38th Street, regarding a.pp1ication submitted to the City Council on April 22., 1931, concerning the mixing of certain materials which have a.sphalt propart ies, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Martin, that the same be re:rerred to the Fire Chief for investigation and report. Motion carried. Communication from Dayle Packing Company, requeat- ing permit and license to pack do.g and cat food at 4703 East 40th Street, was read. Reed, requesting permit to hold motorcycle races at the Las Angeles Stock Yards Rodeo grounds, beginning:May 10, 1931, and every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon thereafter, was read. Sawdust Company, for permit to haul refuse from premises of 2300 East 38th Street, was r'ead. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Evelyn Reece, 6321 Plaska Stree1l, Huntington Park, requesting penmit to sell fruit at Leonis and Soto Street., was r'Sad. It wa.s moved by Durbin, seconded by Mart in, that the communica.tion be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from d. Berry, 6367 S. Alameda Street, complaining of the de1apidated structure on the north-eaat corner of Slauson and Alameda street J as being un.safe and a menace to the public, was read. It wa$ mov ed by Leonie, seconded by Durbin, that the matter be referred to the City Attorney with inatrue.tions to take such steps as are ne.eessary under the law to remove this nuisance.
