MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, CALIFORNIA,
HELD ON MONDAY, JUNE 1, 193.1, AT 8:00 P.M.

1:he meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, tbat the
reading of the Minutes of the prev ious mee.ting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
An agreement 'Submitted by Southern Fuel Compa.ny, re-
garding certain pipe lines and drains within the city of Vernon,
was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, th&t the
same be referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney. Mo-
t ion carried.
Communication from the Southern California Edison
Company, referring to rate re.ductions, was r'ead.
After some discussion, it was moved by Durbin, seconded
by Leonis, that the matter be r~erred to the Commit.tee of the
'Nhole. Motion carried.
Communication from Cork Insulation Company, request-
ing permission to operate at 4804 Everett Street, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from H. E. Bonnell and Associates, re-
garding annual audit for the City, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Report of Haskins and Sells on the general f"inancial.
condition of the city was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from George Miller, requesting permit
to operate a restaurant known as the Cow Boy Inn, at 4401 Downey
Road. , \1(&8 read.
It was moved by J)urbin, seconded by Martin, that the
sue be referred to the Police Department for investigat ion
and report. Motion carried.
Cammunication from otto Schultz, 733 Gladys Street,
Los Angs,les, requesting permit to sell iee cream in the city,
was read.
It waa moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the

ditions of the oity was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from the Los Angeles District Tele-
graph Company, requesting permit to trim trees in pa.rkway on
the east side of Santa Fe Avenue between 55th and 57th Streat..
to provide clearance of Fire Alarm circuits, was read.
It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Martin, that
the communioation be filed and permit granted, provided the
tree trimming is done under the supervision of the City
Engineer. Motion oarried.
Comnninioat ion from Sehuls.e-Baker Furniture 00. ,
requesting permit and license to manufacture furniture at
1911 Eaat 51st Street, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Martin, that
the communioation be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried.

It was moved by Durbin, seoonded by Martin, that
the same be raferred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
A.t this time the City Engineer reported that he
had a. request f"rom the California Cottonseed Company for
permit to alter bui1ding, a.nd that he was not in p;osition
at 'this time to make a report thereon.

the mattar be aga..in referred to the City Jj,jngineer to maJ.ce a

It was moved by Leonis, seoonded by Durbin, that
the City Engineer be instructed to make an application to the
Railroad Commission for permit for two railroad orossings on
Magn01ia Avenue. Motion carried.

for permit to place one 50 foot pole a.nd one anchor, remove
one 40 foot pole and pla.ce 9 feet af 4 inch sewer tile on the
