Councilmen present: ,b'urlong, Leonis, Durbin, Martin Councilmen absent: Levy It 'Was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis- pensed with. Motion carried. Communicat ion from Norberg Company was read. It was moved by Martin, seconded by Durbin. that the same be referred to the Light and Power Committee. Mo- tion carried. Application from A. S. Vinnell, for permit to excavate sand from certain property in Rancho San Antonio, was read. lihe City Attorney siated at this time that the app1ication was in form. It was moved by Durbin. seconded by Martin, that the a.pplication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Hilgartner Marble Company, for permit to remove sand from their premises north of Bandini Boulevard, was read. ~he City Attorney a.t this time reported. that the application was not in form and. did not comply with the Ordinance, and recommended tha.t it be denied. On that ground it was moved by D't1:}:bin, seconded by Martin. that the application be fIled and the permit denied. Mot ion carried. Communica.t ion from Elmer L. Boggs, f or perm it to excavate sand from the William Ecton prop.erty. to which was attached letter from the Los Angeles County Flood Contr01 District, was read. The City Attorney at this time stated that this applica.tion was not in form and, on tbat ground, recommended tha.t the a.pplication be denied. It wa.s moved by Martin, seconded by Durbin, thai the communica.tianbe fi1ed and the permit denied. Motion carried. Report of t.he Ra.ilroad Commission Order of Dis- missa.l in the matter of the invest igat.ion on the Commis- sion's own motion into t.he crossings at grade of Magnol.ia Avenue in the City of Vernon was read. It was moved by Leonis J seconded by Durbin, that the same be filed. Motion carried. At this t.ime the Light and J?ower CoIImIittee re- ported that it. was not ready to make a. final report on t.he bids referred to it for the construction of the City's generat.ing plant, but that it would be ready on Fr iday J .July 17th. 57 o It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the report be acecepted and that when this meeting adjourn it adjourn to meet Friday, July 17, 1931, at eight o'clock P. M. Motion carried. Report of the Union Oil Company on franchise granted by Los Angeles County under Ordinance No. 59~ N.S. was rea1i. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the same be fi1ed. Motion carried. Communieat ion from San Gabriel Valley Protect ive Association, requesting statement of the use of wa'ter per capi1a in various cities. for future use, based upon the 1930 census, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the same be referred to the 1;iater Board. Motion carried. Communication from Perl B. Charles, stating t.hat he is in position to furnish daily transfers of real estate within the City of Vernon, was rea.d. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, tha.:t. the same be filed. Munic- ipal.ities, stating t.ha.t they have 1500 specimen ordinances on file at the League headquarters that are availab1e on appl..iaat ion, was read. Application 2687:. of Pacific System Homes C<m1};>any, for permit to erect a ~eon sign at the northeast corner of Slauson and Boyle Avenue, was read. This sign would be on a portion of street recently condemned. Approximate cost $150.00. 'J.'he City Att.orney at this time ruled that the City could not legally grant the application. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, tba.t the communica.tion be fi1.ed a.nd the permit denied. Motion carried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the Cit..y transfer $28,9"45.32 from the First. National Bank of Vernon to the Bank of America for the purpose of meet.ing the interest due. on bonds.
