Report of the Police Department on the application of E-1.eetric Switch Clock Inc., for permit and license to operate: at 489.0 Pac if ic Boulevard, wa.s read, where in the Police Department stated that l:tccould find no such business in existence, and recommended that the same be denied~ It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the report be filed and concurred in. It was mo'U'ed 'by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion (tarried. Application 2809: of C.ity af Los Angeles, for building pe.rmi t for the construct ion of truck shed at 2640 East 26th Street, at an &pproximate cost of 1500.00, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the same be ref'erred to the Water and paw;er Committee and the City Attorney. Motion carried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, tha.t the applications be filed and the permits granted. Motion carried. It was mov ed by Durb in, seconded by Mart in, that the City ,;'rcea.sureJt" be author iz.ed: and Eml]?O'IleJt"ed to transfer from the First National Bank, of Verno.n, to the Bank of America, Vernon Bra.nch, the sum of $15,820.31, to be for the purpose af p~ing bond interest. Motion earried. At this time the Committee 0.1' Power and Light of the city of Veltnon, through the secretary, made the follow... ing reports and recommendations of their meeting, at which the Oi ty Engineer was present: 1. That s 1x: draftsmen be employed -- two mechanie:a.l draftsmen, three eleetrical draftsman, and one architee:tural draftsman - and that their salaries shoul.d be nat. to exceed 1225.00 per month each, and that the Commi.ttee a.t this time recommended that they be employed. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the recommendation of the Committee be: approved. Motion carried. 2. That the Committae inatructed the City Engineelt to buy five drafting boarda and five stools at a sum not to exc:eed 1114.00. It wa.s moved by Durbin, seconded by :Martin, that the recommendation of the Commit tee be approved. Mot ion carried. 4. That the City Trea.surer be inatruated to withdraw from the Bond Fund the sum of' $200,000.00, heretofore a.dvanced from the General Fund, and replace sama in. the General Fund, a.nd requeated that their ac- t ion be approved by the Oi ty Council. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the r-equest of the Cormnj..ttee be . granted. Motion carri ad. The City Engineer at this time presented the names of the men now employed with the approval of' the Power and Light ecmmrittee: Mechanical Dra.ftsmen: Eugene G. Durando M. Bianchi Ele.crtrical Draftsman: Ra.l.ph S. Thacker Geo. W. Brooma He further reported that he ha.d not eDl1>loyed the one electrical draftsman and one a.rchitectural draftsman. It was mo.ved by Durbin, seconded by :Martin, that the men whose names were submit ted by the City Engineer be. a.pproved, at aala:.r:ies designat ed - $225.00 per month. It was moved by Durbin, seaonded by Martin, that all empl.o.yees or the City Engineer's office, who do work for the c.ity, either upon the power plant or upon the wa.:ter plant, s.ubmit the ir dema.nds in the usua.l way, and the City Engineer be authar ized to empl.o.y them when and as often as is necessary for the best interests of the city. Motion. carried. At this time the City Engineer requested that a clerk, L1.lis Gayou, be empl.oyed, beginning .January 1, 1..932, to be known as the Engineer's Clerk, at a salary of- seventy- five cents per hour for each hour employed. It was: moved by Durbin, seconded by Martin, that the request of the City Engineer be complied with. Mo.t ion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 639, a Resolutian c:ombining the Water Committee and the .Power a.nd Light Committee. as one com- mittee, a.nd aesignating the name of said committee a.s the Water and Power Committee of the City of Vernon, and defin- ing the duties of said committee, was r'ea.d. It was. moved by Mart-in, seconded by Durbin, tha.t Resolution No. 639 be adopted. Motion carried. At this time the Police Connnitt.ee reported that the Cit.y Police Chief, while on. duty in the c.ity of Vernon, through no fault o~ his, met with an aceident to his aar, a.nd that it WQuld r-equire *322.46 to place the Chief's car in order a.gain, and recommended that the aity pay t.his amount. -4- 107 It was moved by Durbi.n, sec:onded by Martin, tha.t a sum not to exceed $3~46 be al~~ed the Chief af Police for the repair of his automabi1.e. Motion carri.ed. RESOLUTION NO. 640, a. resolut ion crea..t ing a. spec: lal fund to be known as an emergency fund, was read. It was movad by Durb in t seconded by LeQnis t that Resolut ion No. 64C be approved.
