The meeting was cal~ed to order by the. Mayor, :T. ;T.
C-ouncilmen present: Furlong, Durbin, Levy, Peralta
Councilmen absent: Leonia
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
reading of the lUnutes of the previous reeting be dispensed
with. Kat ion carried.
Communication from the Citizens Rate Reduction
League, requesting permission to solicit aignatures in pro-
teat to telephone rates, was read.
It Was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
same be filed. llotion carried.
Communi cat ion from Re:finers Corporat ion, for permis-
sion to operate- a re:finery at 2411 East 30th Street, formerly
occupied. by Hercules Refinery, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
communication be filed and the permit granted subject to the
approval of the Fosmite Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from Tovre-a.. Packing Company, re.quest-
ing permit to opera.te a mea.t packing plant at 3811 Soto Street,
former1.y occupied by Nat ional Packing Company, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
communication be filed a.nd the permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Distributors Pa.cking Company, ad-
v ising that they will cease opera.t ions on July 8, 1.933, at
3301 East Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communicat ion from the Sterling Meat Company, re-
quest tng permit to operate meat packing business at 2501 East
Vernon Avenue, was read. The Sterling :Meat Company' formerly
was known as the Diat:rributorsPacking Co.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
communicat ion be filed and the permit granted. Mot ion carried.
Communicat. ion from Postal Telegraph Company, re-
quest ing the City to relocate fire a.larm circuit an poles
along south side of Leonis B1.vd. between Boyle and Downey Roa.d,
wa.s read.
It was moved by Durbin. seconded by Peralta, that
the same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from R. R. Crozier, requesting employ-
ment in c1.erica.l capacity in Light & Power Department, was read.

Communications from the following firms, for per-
mission to haul refuse from their premises upon and along the
streets of the City of Vernon, were read:

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communications be filed and the permits granted. Motion
carried.
Report of the Water Department was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be filed. Mot ion carried.
Re'port of the Police Department wa.s read.
It Was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta., that
the same be filed. Motion earried.

It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, tb&t the
appliea.t ions be referred tot he Pol ice Department. Mot ion
carried.
A.t this time the City Engineer informed the City
Council that it was necessary to buy additional line material,
in aceordance with Specifications Nos. 76, 77 and 78, and re-
quested the Council to advertis-e for bids for the furnishing
of same.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the City Clerk be instructed. to advertise for bids for the
furnishing of material, as requested. by the City Engineer
to conform with Specifications. Nos. 76, 77 and 78. Motion
carr-ied.
The foll~ing applications, all having the approval
of the City Eng ine er, were read:
APPlication 4ll9: of F"ibreboard Products Co., for building
permit for' the conetruct ion of fact ory building at 4444
Pacific Blvd. Approximate cost $13,500.00.
APplication 4120: of George Saul Livestock Transportation
Co., for building permit to construct frame of:fice building
on rear of lot. between Magnolia and Downey Road, on Slauson
Avenue. Approximate cost $100.00.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that

Communicat ion from the City; Engineer's off'ice was
rea.d., recommending in connection with the engine operation
of the Vernon power pla.nt that the following positions be
created and only a part of the positions herein set forth be
f'i11ed at this time, but others to be a.d.ded "S the load in-
creases and more engines are put on the line; The positions
and the minimum rate suggested are as follows:
