MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 7, 1.933., AT EIGHT

It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the
reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
Communication from the West Coast Kalsomine Co. ,
requesting sewer f"acilities on East 26th Street, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the communica.tion be referred to the City Engineer. Motion
carried.
Communicat ion from Alex de la Torre, for permit
to feed live stock on ten aCl!'e tract located south of East
26th Street and east of Soto Street, formerly occupied by
Belyea Truck qampany, was read.
It was mov ed by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the communication be referred to the Committee of the Whole.

Communicat ion from Paul A. Theod, for permit to
conduct and operate a. reataurant at 4903 Santa Fe Avenue
(recommendation of Police Department that application be
granted), was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Mot ion
carried.
Cormnunication from the Mathewa Stationery &: Print-
ing Company, Ltd., for permit to conduct and operate-a.
printing, sta.tionery and office supply business a.t 581.9-2.3

the same be referred to the Police Department. Motion

Communication from E. T. Bihler,for permit to

Road, was read.

Produce Plaza. was read.
It was moved by Levy. seconded by Peralta. that

opera.te a trucking business at 2607 East 26th Street was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that
the communicat ion be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from Leberman, Hosencrantz Company,
for permit to conduct a jobbing business at 4561 Produce
Plaza, was read..
It was moved by Eurbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the communication be filed a.nd permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communications from the following firms for per-
mits to haul refuse upon and a.long the public streets of
the city of Vernon were r'ead:

It was moved by Durb in, seconded by Peralta., that

Report of the Fire Department on changing of
Pa.c.ific Coast thread to Stand.ar-d thred on fire hose, hy-
drants, etc., was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the same be referred to the City Engineer-. Motion carried.
Communication from H. H. Isaacs on request of
General Petroleum Corporation for revision of Ordinance
309 regarding fire foam protection was read.
It was mov ad by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the same be referred to the Fire Committee for r'eport.

Report and recommendation of the Police Department

All applications being approved by the Police De-
pa.rtment, it was moved by Durb in, seconded by Levy, that the
applications and report of the .Police' Departmen't be
file.d a.nd licenses granted. Motion. carried.
The Police Department recommended that the applica-
tion of Mrs. A.lice Pillsbury for licen'se to sell 3..2 a.1coholic
beverages at 1825 East 25th Street be denied.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
recommendation of the Police Department be concurred in and
that the application of Mrs. Alice Pillsbury be denied. Mo-
tion carried..
ORDINANCE NO. 465, an ordinance zoning a portion
of the City of Vernon for the carrying on of certain businesses

Ordinance No. 465 be passed for second reading.. Yot ion carried.

ORDINANCE NO. 466, an ordinance fixing bonds of
city employees and officia.ls was read for second reading.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, tha.t
Ordinance No. 466 be passed for second reading. Motion
carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 466, an ordinance fixing bonds of
city employees and officials waa read for third and final
reading.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
Ordinance No. 466 be adopt ed. Mot ion carried by the follow-

At this time the City Engineer recommended that the
salary of H. V. Harris be increased from $200.00 to $225.00
per month, and that the sa.lary of R. S. Thacker be reduced
from $22:5.00 to $200.00 per month, to take effect August 15,
1933.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in a.nd tha.t
the saJ.ary of H. V. Harris be increased from $200.00 to $225.00
per m~lnth, and that the salary of R. S. Tha.cker be decreased
from $225.00 to $200.00 per month, beginning August 15, 1933.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that from
and after the 15th day of August, 1935, E. Giles shall. be
Assistant Fire Chief of the City of Vernon, and that his com-
pensat ion shall be $100.00 per month as such Assistant Fire
Chief. Motion carried. .
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
salary for the Chief of .Police, from and after the 15th day of
August, 1933, shall be $200.00 per' month, and that. E. Giles
shall act both as ABsistant Fire Chief and as Chief of Police
until the further order of the City Council. Motion carried.
