Kotion carried. At this t iDle the City Clerk announced that he had bids. upon his desk, pursuant to notice, for the furnishing of ear~ boring and pole set t ing IBach ine. It wu moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the clerk open and read the blds. Mot ion carried.. The clerk then opened and read bids from the follow- ing firms: Graybar Electric Co. Brown-Bevis Campany ~uality Electric Co. Cooper & Livingston Co. E. A. Irish Smith, Booth & USher It was moved by/Durbin, seconded by Levy, that all bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Mot ion carried. Communication fram General E.lectric Company, regard- ing lamp purchases, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be referred to the City Engineer for report. Mot ion carried. Communicat ion from Oakwood .Products Co., for per- mit to conduct 8;. woodworking business at 2316 East 37th Street, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durb in, that the same be referred to the Fire Department. Motion carried. Communications from the following firms for per- mission to haul refuse upon and along the streets of the Ci1iy of Vernon were read: LuerPacking Co. Industrial Care Buttress &: McClellan, Ltd. Universal Engineering Co. Ltd. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communica.tions be filed and permits granted. )lotion carried. Report of the \Va.ter Department wa.s read. 351 It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be fil.ed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was rea.d. It wae moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta., that the same be fil.ed. Motion carried. A.t this time Howard M~Curdy, City Engineer, re- ported that the U. S. Spring & Bumper Co. Inc., and other manufa.aturers would take power from the city system if they were assured that in conneat. ing with the city system. they would be prot.ected in the event of a la.wsuit by the com- pany from which they are now taking power. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the report of the City Engineer be fil.ed and the City Clerk be, and he is hereby, instructed, in the name of the city to assure each and every consumer transferring to the city system that the city will protect them from any and all damages by v irtue of said change to the city light and power system. Mo- t ion carried. At this time the Fire Chief reported on the cross arms for the poles to carry the fire alarm wires. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the matter be referred to the Fire Board.' Motion carried. The Police Department at this time recommended that the application of the A.B.a. Distributing Co. for the dis- tribution of 3.2 per cent beverages be granted. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the recommendation at the Police Department be concurred in and that the City Clerk be instructed to issue a license inac- cor-dance with the city ordina.nce. Mot ion carried. App1icat ion 4159: of the Ace Art & Commerc ial Sand Blaat. Co., for building permit, was r'ead. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be referred to the Fire Department. Motion carried. The foll.owing applic&t ions, hav ing the approval of the City Engineer, were read: 4Pplics.tion 4160: of O.K.L..a.. Sawdust Co., for building per- mit to construct bins and supp.ort for piping at 2300 East 38th Street. Approximate cost $.365.00. Application 4161: of EmSQO Refractories Co., for permit to wreck shed at '5601 S. Boyle Avenue. Approximate cost $50.00. kpp1icat ion 4162: of' Gilmore Oil Co. J for permit to wreo k shed and fence a.t 2405 East 26th Street. Approximate cost $'15.00. It was moved. by Durb in, seconded by Levy, that the applicati.ons be .fi1ed ami permits gra.nted. Mot ion carried. Application 41.63: of Southern Cal ifornia.
