Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonie, Durbin, Levy, :Pe ra.l.t. a Cauna ilmen absent.: None It was mov ed by Peralta, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion earTied. A.t this time the City Clerk announced that he had seaJ.ed bids upon hie desk, pursuant t.o notice inv it.ing same, for the furnishing of co.pper cable, in accordance with Speci- fications No. 85. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the Clerk proceed to open the bids. Motion carried. At t.his time the Clerk opened and read bids from the following firms: Okonite-Callender Cable Co. General. Cable Corporation Columbia Steel Company It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin. that all bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on app1ica.tions of :T. M. Sellers and :T. Levine, for permit to conduct a sawdust business at 3128 East 26th Street, \'fas rea.d. Said report recommended that the applications be filed and a permit be granted to :T. M. Sellers. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the applications be filed and a permit be granted to :T. M. Sellers. Motion carried. Communication from Standard Material.s Company, 2822 South Alameda Street, requesting permission to handle general. line of building supplies, such as cement, plaster, wire, etc., was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from A. K. Smiley Public Library, Redlanda, California, requesting the city to al~OVi intereat on the sum. of $3000.00 in bonda due from the city .ru~y 1, 1933, but Which had not been presented, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the same be referred to the City Attorney for reply. Motion carried. Communicat ion fram Edgert on, Ri1ey &: Walter, offering ~)8 the city of Vernon $5000.00 City of Vernon ..Vater \forks Bands, in denominat ions of $166.66 each. Bonds are offered at par pl.us accrued interest. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and the Clerk instructed to not ify the writer that the city is not interested. Motion carried. Communica.tion from Moore &: Iverson, Inc., with copy of letter received from Edward Br'own & Son, asking f'or letter from Board of' Trustees, verifying the f'act that it is in order for the Clerk of the city of Vernon to endorse draft issued on Globe &: Rutgers return premium, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and the City Attorney instructed to answer. same. Same hav ing been approved by the Wa.ter &: Power Com- mittee on February 5, 1935, it was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peruta, that the same be ref'erred t.o the City Engineer for report~. Motion carried. Communications from the :following firms, for permits to haul refuse from their premises upon and along the public streets of the city of Vernon, were read: Vernon .Potteries Ltd. Pacific Cottonseed Products Corp. Abner Miller' Company It Was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communilBations be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Report of the :Police Department was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be fil.ed. Motion carried. Communication from the Fire Chief, request ing approval of the City Council for the playing of ball by the firemen to keep in?ood physiCal condition,.' was read. The approval of this request .!i.a to be forwarded to the State Compensation Insurance Fund. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the City Council approve the request of the lHre Chief to permit firemen to p1ay ball to keep .in good physiCal condition. Motion carried. At this tUne the City Engineer presented form of con- tract with Leeds &: Northr'up <::ompany for the care of the equip- ment furnished by it in the Power Department, and recommended tha.t the City approve same.
