MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5" 1935, AT
THREE 0 t CLOCK P. X., AT THE CITY
HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J. Furlong.

Councilmen absent: . None
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that this
was the time and place set for the receiving of bids :for
the fi1rnishong of Diesel fuel oil to the city, and that he
wished to report that he had received no bids.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,' that
the report of the City Clerk be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from the State Department of Public
Works, Sacramento, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy" that
the same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from Sabrozo Tamale Company, for
permit to operate a tamale factory at 4222 South produce
Plaza, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from the Gem Packing Company, for
permit to operate a meat packing business at 330lEast
Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communlcationfrom Peerless Packing Company, for
permit to operate wholesale meat distributing business at
3290 East. Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that
the communic'atolon be filed and perIni t granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from the following firms for per-
m! ts to haul, refuse upon and along the public streets of
the city of Vernon were read:

Vernon Fixture & Cabinet Co.
J. B. Leonis, Inc.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy # that
the communioations be filed and permits granted. Hot ion
carried.
Councilman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION NO. 771,
a resolution approving Specifications No. 89, and moved
its .adoption, which was seconded by Levy, and. carried.
Councilman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION NO. 772,
a resolution approving Specifioations No. 90, and moved
its adoption, which was seconded by Levy, and carried.
Counoilman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION NO. 773,
a resolution declaring the prevailing rate per diem wages
for labor to be used in the furnishing and erection. of
one all welded fuel oil ~ and appurtenances, as de-
scribed in Specifications No. 90, and moved its adoption,
which was seconded by Levy, and carried.
It was moved by Durbin, seoonded by Peralta, that
the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids under
Specifications Nos. 89 and 90. Hotionoarried.
Vammunication from J. R. Molony Co., in reference
to the insurance upon the city's property, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta,tbat
the Mayor and. City Clerk be authoriz~d to insure the p.rop'"
erty under the terms of the letter from J. R. Molony Co.
Motion carried.
At this time the owners of Kinney Iron Works
were present.andaddl'essed the City Council on anapp11o.a-
tion rece;ntly filed with the City.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta,that
the matter refer~ed to by Mr. Kinney, of the Kinney Iron
Works, be referred to the City Attorney for report. !lotion

Communication, with application attached for permit
to make excavation across East 26th Street, at the 3200bloc;k,.
for the purpose of conduit pipes 4", by Stauffer Chemical
Company, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, tbatthe
same be referred to the Committee of the Whole. Hot10.

were read..
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy# that

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the same be filed. Motion carried.
Report of Haskins & Sells for the period ending
June 30" 1935, was read.
It was 'moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy" that
the same be referred to.the Finance Committee. Motion
carI'ied. .
The following applications, all having the approval
of the City Engineer, were read: .
Application 4616: of Atlantic Pacific Tea Company, for per-
mit to remodel loading platform a t 4527 Loma Vista Avenue.
Approximate cost $200.00.
Application 4617: of Associated Oil Company, for permit to
construct basement at 28th and Santa Fe Avenue. Approximate
cost $900.00.
Application 4618: of Studebaker Pacific Company, for permit
to install 1000 gallon underground tank and pump at 4635 Loma
Vista Avenue. Approximate cost $355.00.
Application 4619: of National Brass Works,. for permit to con-
struct addition to present plant at 2140 East 25th Street.
Approximate cost $1200.00.
Application 4620: of California Cotton Oil Company, for permit
to construct incinerator at 2301 East 52nd Street. Approximate
cost $500.00.
Application 4621: of J. B. LEI>nis, Inc., for permit to con-
struct and remodel shed and fence at 26th and Downey Road.
Approximate cost $2000.00.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy ..that the
applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Dema.nds on the General Fund in the sum of $12,205.28
were read.
