MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
REID TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1935, AT
THREE 0' CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY
HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305
SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J.Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Peralta
, Councilmen absent: LeVy
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that

pensed with. MotIon carried.
At this time the City C1.rk announcedtllathe
had on his desk sealed proposals for the furnishing of
electric meters azad instrum.ent transfome>>s, pursuant to
notice inviti~r:;Jarne.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the Clerk open the bids. Motion carried.
At this time the Clerk publicly opened and read
bids from the following firms:
Westinghouse Electric Co.
General Electric Company
Sangamo Electric Company
Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Company

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
all bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and
report. Motion carried.
The Clerk then ,announced that he also had on his
desk, pursuant to notice, bids for the furnishing of a :ruel
oil tank in accordance with Specifications No. 90.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that
the Clerk proceed to open and read the bids. Motion carried.
Bids from the following firms were then publicly
opened and read:
Western Pipe and Steel Co.
Consolidated Steel Co.
Southwest Welding & Mfg. Co.
Lacy Mfg. Co.
Natj,JonaJ.ll'lank and Mfg. Co.
American Pipe and Steel Co., Ltd.
Buehler Tank and Welding Works
It was m()v~d by Leonis, seconded by Peralta~ that
the bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and
report. Motion carried.
Communication from D}thcan Electric Company, stating ,
that it is unable to bid on transformers as its instrument
does not comply with city's specifications, was read.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be r e.ferred to the City Engineer. Motion. carried.
Communication from the Railroad Commission, regard-
ing pav~ng over Southern Pacific tracks in the vicinity of
25th and Alameda Streets, was read. '
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralt~i' that the
same be ref'erred to the City Engineer. Motioncarrled.
Petition presented by employees of Ge:n~raI>.Paint?Co.,
Hancock Oil Company, Pennant Oil Company, and lJn'1:onJPacific
Company, for drainage ditch on the south side of 'read ,on
curve at the east end of Washington Boulevard, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta."that the
communications be filed and permits granted. Motion, carried.
Communication from P. J. Valor, 6505 Lucille Avenue,
Bell,9alifornia, for permit to haul grape pulp to be used for
fertilizer on property located on Boyle Avenue. near Slauson
Avenue ,w,as read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. :Mot1on oarried.
Communication from Richards Neustadt Construotion
Company, for permi tt 0 transport a wooden shed to their pro~
erty located at 5500 Boyle Avenue, was read. The shed 1s
used on various construction jobs.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Report of the Fire Department on application of
Keesey Wood Turning Company, for permi tto conduct a woJ,)d .
turning business at 2300 East 48th Street, was bead.

It was moved by Leo~is, seconded by Peralta, that
the report of the Fire Department be filed. Motion carried.

Report of the Fire Department on application of
the Pico Oil Company, for permit to conduct business at
the old Hercules Gasoline property on East 30th Street, was
read. Said report recommends that the application be granted
as foam lines are in accordance with City ordinance.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the
report be filed and the recommendations concurred in. Motion
carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Kinney Iron Works, with drawings
of'ou.f14i>la recently installed, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the s~e be laid over uhtil the next meeting. Motion carried.
At this time the City Engineer reported that the
Southwest Welding & Mfg. Co. was the lowest and best bidder
for the furnishing of fuel oil tank, and recommended that
the City Council award the contract to said firm.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
all bids for the furnishing of the fuel oil tank be rejected
except the b.1d of the Southwest Welding & Mfg. Co., and that
it be awarded the contract; that all cheeks of unsuccessful
bidders be returned; that the City Attorney be inst!"'llcted to
draw the contract between the City and the successful bidd~r.
Motion carried.
Minutes of the meetings of the Water & P01rer Com-
mittee of November 12th and 19th, 1935, were read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
thel same be filed. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval
of the Oity Engineer, were read:

carried.
Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $27,J.()1.29,
were read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta,tbat
the demands be allowed and warrants drawn. Motion carried.
There being no :further business, it was movdby
