19351217 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1935, AT THREE O'CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA - - - - - - - - - ~ - - - - - - - - The "meeting was called to order by the :M~yor, J. J. Furlong. Councilmen present: Councilmen absent: Furlong, Durbin, Peralta Leonis, Levy It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the reading' of the Minutes of the previous meet.ing be dis- pensed with. Motion carried. Communication fram Sangamo Electric Company, re- garding bids on Specifications No. 91, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Connnunication from Hydro-Steam System Ltd., re- questing per.mitto conduct business of manufacturing' steam cleaning machinery at 6332 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Al Knell, for permit to operate service station at 4401 Downey Road, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication fram C. W.Granneman, for permit to operate welding business at 2901 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Co:cnmuri.ication from Growers Cold Storage Corp., for permit to haul refuse from their premises at 5050 Alameda Street upon and along the public streets of the city of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded bY Peralta, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Associated Oil Company, request- ing permission to set tool house SIX 10' on portion of side- walk on East 28th street; also to place necessary materials for building construction in street, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin,that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was 'moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the same be filed. Motion carried. 1 r~9 .0 Communication from Beeson Engineering Company, for permit to haul refuse from its premises at 2501 East 52nd street, upon and along the public streets of the city of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. At this time the City Engineer reported that the sewers in certain portions of the city of Vernon were in a dangerous condition to the manufacturers and to the health of the employees, and that same would have to be repaired innnediately. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the City Engineer be instructed to do what is necessary to alleviate the danger and menace from the overcrowded sewers. Motion carried. Minutes of the meetings of the Water & Power Com- ndttee of December 10th and 17th, 1935, were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the Minutes be filed. Motion carried. The followirigapplications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: Application 4660: of L.A. Steel Casting Co., for permit to construct sned on the southeast'corner of 25th and Alameda Streets. Approximate cost $200.00. Applicati~n 4661: of Repeal Brass Manufacturing Company, for permit to construct addition to present building at 2115 East 27th street. Approximate cost $500.00. Application 4672: of Wilshire Oil Company, for permit to repair oil pipe line on East 26th Street. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $42,948.92, were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the demands be allowed snd warrants drawn for the same.
