MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD TUESDAY, JANUARY 7, 1936, AT
THREE 0' CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL
OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE
AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Peralta
Councilmen absent: Levy
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the
reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that he had
upon. his desk bids for the furnishing to the City of electric
meters.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the Clerk proceed to open the bids. Motion carried.
At this time the Clerk opened and publicly declared
bids from the following firm: Duncan Electric Company.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by PeraJ.ta, that
the bid of' the Duncan Electric Company be referred to the
City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried.
Communication from Westinghouse Electric Company,
stating that it could not bid under our specifications to
furnish electric meters, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 489, an ordinance granting franchise
to the Atchison, Topeka &: Santa Fe Railway Company for spur
track across East 26th Street, to serve Pennzoil property,
was read for first reading.
It was moved by Leonis!, seconded by Durbin, that
Ordinance No. 489 passed for first reading. Motion ~arried.
.communication from Fibreboard ProductsIIlC., re-
questing certain traffic signs in front of driveway on
Pacific Boulevard, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the application be granted subject to the supervision of
the City Police Department. Motion carried.
, Circular letter fromCounty of Los Angeles Health
Department, regarding County Health Officer serving City
without cost, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
Circular letter from Railroad Commission, establish-
ing rates, rules and regulations on highway common carriers,
was read.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta,
that the same be referred to the Connnittee of the Whole.
Motion carried.
Circular letter from League of California
Municipalities,regardi:ng notice of Railroad Commission
hearing regarding compensation and hire of road building'
material by dump t rucks over public streets and highways,
was read.
It was moved by Leonis,seconded by Pera.lta, that the
same be referred to the City Attorney and Commitee of the
Whole. Motion carried.
... Report of the Union Oil Company, on Los Angeles
Courity Franehise No. 596 N.S., was read.
It was moved by LeonIs, seconded by Peralta,
that the same be filed. Motion carried.
C omri1unicat ion: from Universal Brass Manufacturing

bushiess for pltimbing fixtures at 2328 East 49th street, was
read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that
~he same be referred to the Committee of the Whole. Motion
carried.
Corm.nu.rilcation from W. B.Elfstrom Company, request-
ing permit to manufacture wringer rolls for washing machines
and miscellaneous hard rubber goods at 2300 East 48th Street,
was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion car-
ried.
CommunicationfromP & A Frame and Carving Shop,
for permit to manufacture pa.rlo!' furniture frames and carv-
ings at 1924 East Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
'".. Communications from the Studebaker Pacific Corporation
and National Brass Works, for permit to haul refuse from
their premises along and upon the public streets of the city
of Vernon, were read.

the communications be filed and permits granted. Motion
carried.
Communication 'from Vernon Paving Company, for permit
to conduct an asPhalt paving plant at 3200 East Vernon Avenue,
was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Leonis, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.

RESOLUTION 'NO. 774, a Resolution of the City
Council of the City of Vernon authorizing the transfer
to the Sewer Drainage Budget of $3000.00 from t he General
Fund, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
Resolution No. 774 be adopted. Motion carried.
Minutes of the meeting of the Water & Power Com-
mittee of January 7, 1936, were read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the Minutes be filed. Motion carried.

to constrUct oil room at 1925 East Vernon Avenue. Approximate
cost $300.00. .

at an approximate cost of f185.00.
Application 4679: of L. A. Pacific Macaroni Company, for
permit to'make alterations at 4722 Everett Avenue. Approximate
cost $400.00.
Application 4680: of Rich Manufacturing Company, for permit
to make alterations at 3851 Santa Fe AVenue on cupola.
Approximate cost $200.00.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by ~eralta, that

Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $14,459.48,
were read.
