MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY' OF VEBN ON, HELD TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 1936, AT THREE 0 t CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Furlong, Durbin, Levy, Pera.l ta Councilmen absent: Leonis It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 490, an ordinance granting franchise to the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company for spur track across East 26th Street, to serve Pennzoil property, was read for second read~ng. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that Ordinance No. 490 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 490, an ordinance granting franchise to t he Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company for spur track across East 26th Street, to serve Pennzoil property, ''is read for third and final reading. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that Ordinance No. 490 be adopted. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the same be r ei'erred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. Report of the General Pipe Line Company on Los Angeles County Franchise No. 781 N. S. was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the Same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Mall-Tool Company, for permit to conduct business at 2828 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Corcoran Paper Company, for permit to to conduct a wholesale paper business at 4249 North Produce Plaza, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the communicatIon re filed and the permit granted. Motion e arried. Communication from Brank Gouveia and Stanle;1 Fox, for permit to conduct and operate garage and repair shop at 3750 East Vernon Avenue, wa.s read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be laid over until the next regular meeting. Motion oarried. Communications from the following firms for permits to haul refuse upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon were read: Vfu~ting Mead Company Ga7 Engineering Corporation Globe Grain & Milling Company Certified Grocers of California Ltd. Associated Oil Company It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the communications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Communication from Southwestern Engineering Company, requesting permission to move office from northern portion of property located at 4800 Santa Fe Avenue to the southerly 275 .feet,,' and 75 feet back from Santa Fe Avenue, was read.< It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be referred to the Fire Chief for investigation and report. Motion carried. Conmn.mication from Vernon Paving Company, for permit to install approximately 1100 lineal feet of wooden fence on the south 350 feet of the north 400 feet of Lot 16, J. R. Taylor Tract; also permission to 5urn refuse on. the rear of the above described land, was r-ead. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communicat1 on be filed and permit granted to build the fence; also 'the permit to be issued for the burning of refuse if same is done under the supervision of the Fire Chief. Motion carried. Communication from Creditors Committee on affairsiof Huffine Grain Company, with agreement to accept settlement of 80 per cent of the indebtedness due the city, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and request concurred in. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read,. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the report be filed. Motion carried. At this tine the City Engineer reported that the "Contractor has complied in all respects with the contract for welded fuel oil tank and appurtenances, in accordance with Specifications No:;. 90, and recommended that the tank be ac- Qepted,and the contract price paid.' , It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Lev,-, tnat the recommendation or the City Engineer be filed and concurred in. Motion carried. -2... ~, The City Engineer at this time reported that the Sharples Specialty Co. had furnished the cm trifuge in accord-- ancewith their contract and in accordance with Specifications No. 66, and recommended that same be accepted and the contractor paid for s B.1J1e . . Minutes of the meetings of the Water & Power Committee of January 14th and 21st, 1936, were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the Minuted be filed. Motion carried. Application 4701: of General Petroleum Corporation, for build- ing permit to construct concrete foundations and inst8tll six 201000 gallon lube oil welded tanks atm25 East 37th Street, at an apprilximate cost of $4,970.00, was read. , It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the application be filed and permit be granted for the construction of said tanks upon the approval thereof of the Foamite Inspector.
