MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF TEE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD THHRSDAY, MARCH 26, 1936, AT TWO

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Peralta
Councilmen absent: Levy
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
Deed submitted by Bandini Estate Company to City
of Vernon for a strip of land ten feet wide, being the
southerly ten feet of' Indiana Street, as vaca.ted by Ordinance
No. 391 of the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Leoms, seconded by Durbin, that
the matter be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
An agreement submitted by the Department of Highways
to maintain highways improved under the Emergency Relief Ap-
propriation Act of 1935, was read.
At this time Councilman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION
NO. 782, a resolution authorizing and instructing the Mayor
to execute said agreement, and moved its adoption, which was
seconded by Councilman Peralta, and carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 783, a resolution approving Specifica-
tions No. 92, was presented by Councilman Durbin, who moved its
adoption, which was seconded by Councilman Peralta, and carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 784, a resolution deolaring the pre-
vailing rate per diem wages for labor to be used in the sinking
of drilled water well for the City, as described in Specifications
No. 92, was presented by Councilman Durbin, who moved its adop-
tion, which was seconded by Council Peralta, and oarried.
Communication from Vernon Industrial Development
Association, regarding proposed enlarging of Power Plant, and
requesting information in regard to the lowering of electrioal
energy rates, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded b'1rro.rbin, that the
City Engineer and City Attorney start proceedings for the pur-
ohase of an engine, and that the question of lowering the rat es
for electric energy be referred to the Committee on Water & Power.
Motion oarried. .
Report of the Vernon Industrial Development Associa-
tion for the yearing ending December 31, 1935, was read.
I twas moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be filed. Motion oarried.
Communication from Walter W. Jordan, of Canada Dry
Ginger Ale Inc., 4501 District Blvd., regarding traffio condi-
tions at 38th and Alameda Sts., was read.

the communication be referred to the Committee of the Whole.
Motion carried.
Communication from Mrs. Donaldine White, 35 09 West
25th Street, Los Angeles, regarding traffic conditions at
38th and Alameda Streets, was read.
It was moved by' Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be referred to the Committee of the Whole.
Motion carried.
Communication from ~oover, Owens, Rentschler Co.
to J. B. Leonis, was read before the City Council.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be referred to the City Attorney, City Engineer,
and Water & Power Committee. Motion carried.
Plan submitted by' the City Engineer, for approval,
for improvement of West Vernon AJenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the plan submitted by the City Engineer be approved. Motion
carried by the following vote:

At this time the Union Pacific submitted easements
along certain streets set forth therein, for the placing of
storm. drains.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the easements be accepted by the City subject to the approval
of the City Attorney as to form. Motion carried.
Communication from the Central Manufacturing Dis-
trict, in reference to well site, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
At this time Councilman Leonis announced that J. B.
Leonis, Inc. 1rou;J.,d;g!ve the City an easement to build a storm.
drain in Jewell Street provided that all surplus dirt not used
would be hauled to property designated by the corporation.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the City accept the proposition of J. B. Leonis, Inc. Motion
carried by the following vote:

At this time the City Engineer presented to the City
Council an estimate of the cost of drilling a new well and the
installation of pump connecting mains, pump house, etc., in
the coutheast portion of the City.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the same be filed. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids
for two well sites in the southeast portion of the city
of Vernon. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 491, an ordinance granting to
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe lailway Company a spur track
franchise across a portion of 52nd Street, was read for
second reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seoonded by Durbin, that
ORDINAHCE NO. 491 be passed for second reading. Motion
carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 491, an ordinance granting to
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company a spur track
franchise across a portion of 52nd Street, was read for
third and final reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
ORDINANCE NO. 491 be adopted. Motion carried by the follow-

Atchison, Topeka and Sa.nta Fe Rsi lway Company a spur track
franchise across Santa Fe Avenue near 49th Street, and
across 49th Street, was read for second reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
ORDINANCE NO. 492 be passed for second reading. Motion
carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 492, an ordinance granting to
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company a spur track
franchise across Santa Fe Avenue near 49th Street, and
across 49th Street, was read for third and final reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that

of the City Engineer, were read:

permit to remodel laboratory at 2525 East 37th Street.
Approximate cost $1635.00.
Application 4768: of Growers Cold Storage Co., for building
permIt to make addition to office at 5050 Alameda Street.
Approximate cost $600.00.

permIt to construct shaft for machinery at 4445 S. Soto
St~eet. Approximate cost $50.00.
Application 4770: of Crook Company, .for building permit
to make alterations at 2900 Santa Fe Avenue. Approximate

Application 4771: of Washington E1jer Company, for building
permIt to make alterations to roof at 2035 East Vernon Ave.
Approximate cost $500.00.

install r err1geration plant at 4810 Everett Street. Approxi-
mate cost $2000.00.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the applications be approved and permits granted. Motion
carried.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
this meeting adjourn to March 3 936, at two o'clock P. ]tIe
