19360420 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF AN ADliOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD MONDAY, APRIL 20, 1936, AT THREE O'CLOCK P. M., AT. THE CITY HALL. OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The meening was called to order by the Mayor, it. J. Furlong. Councilmen present: Furlong, Durbin, Levy, Peralta Councilmen absent: Leonis It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the reading" or the Minutes of' the previous meeting be dis- pensed with. Motion carried. The Mayor at this time informed the City Council that this was the time and place 'eb by law and also by virtue or adjournment for thecanvassiilg of ballots cast at the last general municipal election. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the City Council proceed to canvas the ballots. Motion carried. The ballots were then counted. Councithman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION NO. 787, a resolution declaring the results of a regular municipal election held in the City of Vernon on the 14th day of April,1936; and moved its adop- . tion, which was seconded by Councilman Peralta, and carried. At this time the oath of office was taken by James J. Furlong .asCo1lri.cilman, Richard Levy as CounCilman, and Thomas J. Furlong as City Clerk. At this time the Mayor vacated the Chair a.nd requested the City Clerk to call the meeting"to order for the purpose of reorganizing the City Council. Thomas J. Furlong, as City Clerk, then assumed the chairmanship of the meeting and announced that this was the time and place for the nomination and election of Mayor for the ensuing term. It was moved. by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that James J. Furlong be elected Mayor for the ensuing term. Motion carried unanimously. James J. 1:tur1ong then again resumed office and. announced that all committees shall remain the same until further order or the Council. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that all employees now work~ for the city shall remain as they now are, and hav~ tM same compensation until further order of the City Council.
