M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Furlong. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Peral,ta Councilmen absent: None It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the reading o:f the Minutes o:f the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. Report o:f the City Engineer on bids on the drilling o:f water well was read. It was moved by Durbin, seeCmded by Leonis, that the same be laid over to an adjourned meeting to be held May 12, 1936. Motion carried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that when tLis meeting adjourns it adjourn to May 12, 1936, at three o'clock P. M. Motion carried. Statememt and report o:f the Southern Cali:fornia Telephone Company on Franchise No. 108, with check in the sum o:f $7439.19 attached, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that. the communication be :filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Statement and report o:f Union Oil Company o:f Cali- :fornia on Los Angeles County Franchise No. 596 N. S., with check in the sum o:f $10.13 attached, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be :filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Report o:f H. H. Isaacs on various :foam extinguishing systems installed in the city was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the report be :filed. Motion carried. Communication :from League o:fCali:fornia Municipalities regarding the "In Lieu" tax allocation, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be :filed and re:ferred to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication :from W. J. Saunders, requesting that street grade on First Street between 57th and Slauson Avenue be established :for building purposes, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be re:ferred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. 210 Communication from Kinney Iron Works, regarding pro- p.osed cupola, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be referred to the next regular meeting. Motion carried. Communication with demand attached from the office of the City Attorney of Los Angeles, in the sum of $253,604.12, was read. . It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the same be referred to the Finance Committee, the City Engineer, and City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from Garden Tractor Sales Company, offering a power lawn mower to the city for the s~ of $215.00, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Washington-Eljer Company, request- ing Bhat a restricted zone be established in front of their place of business at 2035 East Vernon Avenue, for automobile parking purposes, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication'from George S. Miloff,for permit to operate a restaurant at 2100 East Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the same be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Wm. Paddison, for permit to haul refUse from premises of 2304, 2317 and 2325 East 37th Street, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralt~ that the same be filed. Motion carried. Minutes of the meetings of the Water & Power Committee for April 28 and May 6, 1936, were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be filed. Motion carried. . Communication from Joseph Artale, Fire Chief, advis- -ing of resignation of E. A. Lewis from the Department, and requesting the approval of the appointment of F. F. Worth in the place of Lewis, and Sam Capra as vacation relief man, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and the action of the Fire Chief approved. Motion carried. -2- 2:1.1 ,,' RESOLUTION No. 789, a resolution accepting deed heretofore submitted by the Bandini Estate for a strip of land t en feet wide, being the southerly ten feet of Indiana Street, as vacated by Ordinance 391 of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that Resolution No. 789 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from the Vernon Industrial Develop- ment Association, in reply to previous communication from the City, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Application 4822: of H. W. Brower, for permit to construct warehouse at 5735 First Street, at an approximate cost of $3000.00, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be laid over to the next regular meeting for in- vestigation. Motion carried. Application 4824: of Buttress & McClellan, for building per- mI~ to construc~ factory building for Independent Foundry Sup~ly Co., at 2325 East 38th Street, at an approximate cost of @8600.00, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be laid over to the next meeting of the City Council. Motion carried. Approximate cost $13,000.00. Application 4811: of L. A. Young Spring & Wire Company, for permit to construct wire fence at 3200 East Slauson Avenue. Approximate cost $1500.00. Application 4812: of L. A. Brush Company, for permit to con- struct incinerator at 2431 East 26th Street. Approx~ate cost $300.00. Application481~: of California Flaxseed Products Co., for permIt to cons~ruct foundation and brickwork for boiler at 3135 East 26th Street. Approximate cost $500.00. Application 4814: of L. A. Paving Company, for permit to install l.OOO gallon gasoline tank and pump at 3700 South Soto Street. Approximate cost $100.00. Application 4815: of Dr. Geo. D. Wells, for permit to install ready built house at 4317 Downey Road for temporary examination room. Approximate cost $145.00. Apillcation 4829: of Americm Manganese Steel Company~ for permit to construct addition to existing building at 5805 Downey Road. Approximate cost $620.00. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the applications be filed and permits issued. Motion carried. Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $12~142.0l, were read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the demands be allowed and warran ts drawn for the same. Motion carried.
