19360512 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEET- ' ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1936, AT THREEO'CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Councilmen present: Leonis, Durbin, Levy Councilmen absent: Furlong, Peralta In the absence of the .Mayor, the meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, who informed the City Council that the .Mayor would be absent, and declared that nominations were in order for temporary chairman of the meeting. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that Councilman Leonis act as Mayor pro tem for the meeting. Mo- tion carried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting 'be dispensed with. Motion carried. , At this time the Clerk read the report and recom- mendation of the City Engineer on the bids received for the drilling of a water well for the City, wherein he recommended that the bid of the Roscoe Moss Company, being the lowest and best bid, be accepted. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that all bids for the d:t'lilling of the city's water well be rejected except the bid of the Roscoe Moss Company, and that the Roscoe Mos. Company be awarded' the contract, and that the City ,Attorney be instructed to draw same. Motion carried. At this time the City Engineer reported that he had received a bid for one of the Olympic bungalows, of $60.00, said bid to be f.o.b. the City's yard where the bungalow is now stored, and recommended that the City accept same. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from W. H. De Sellem, City Auditor, in reference to delinquent accounts, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, t.hat the Kame be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from F. M. McComb, plant superintendent and mechanical engineer, and Wayne N. Johnson, electrical en- gineer, in reference to a change in the personnel of the elec- trical department, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the communication be filed and approved subject to the checking of salaries by the City Attorney. Motion carried. At this time the City Engineer recommended that the City advertise for bids for the furnishing of the necessary fuel and lubricating oil for the power plant for the coming year. -1- 214 It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy"that the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in and that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids in accordance with said recommendation. Motion car- ried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the Electrical Department of the city make a survey of tl:1e rates and charges of the City for the furnishing of electricity to the various customers; that on the comple- tion thereof it file a report and recommendation with the Water & Power Committee with a view to reducing the elec- tric rates within the city of Vernon. Motion carried. The following applications, all having the approval Of the City Engineer, were read: Ap~lication 4624: of Buttress & McClellan Company, for building permit' to construct factory building at 2325 East 38th Street. Application 4831: of Racor Pacific Frog & Switch Company, for permit to eX)end crane runway at 3355 East Slauson Avenue. Approximate cost $900.00. Application 4832: of General Petroleum Corporation, for permIt to demolish two buildings at 2525 East 37th Street. Approximate cost $450.00. App1ioation 4833: of General Petroleum Corporation, for bu!lCllng permit to construct concrete foundation and move 12'x6" x 18'x6" building at 2525 East 37th Street. Approxi- mate cost $430.00. Application 4834: of Pioneer Flintkote Company, for building permIt to construct supports and foundation for asphalt heater at 55th and Alameda Streets. Approximate cost $3000.00. Application 4835: of California Flaxseed Products Company, for permit to lay cement floor around boiler at 3135 East 26th Street. Approximate cost $100~00. . Application 4836: of Pennzoil Company, for permit to break curb at 3840 East 26th Street for driveway. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the applications be filed and permits granted.
