19360609 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes :MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEET- ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 1936, AT THREE O'CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL.OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA Councilmen present: Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Peralta Councilmen absent: Furlong The City Clerk called the meeting to order andr e- quested the nomination of a chairman pro tem of the meeting. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that J. B. Leonis act as chairman pro tem. Motion carried. '.It was moved by Durbin, seconded by LeVy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. .otion carried. Communication from Hilgartner Marble Company, re- garding the constrUction of a sanitary processing fertilizer plant on their property facing Bandini Boulevard, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be referred to t he City Clerk for checking and report as to zone. Motion carried. Communication from Thomas V. Cassidy, City Attorney, regarding request of W. C. Daniels for refund of license tax paid in error, was read, Wherein the City Attorney advised the City CoUncil that it would be illegal to refund the license tax. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the communication be filed and the request of W. C. Daniels be denied for the reasons stated in the communication of the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communicati.onfrom E. J. Stanton & Son, requesting permit to paint curbs in front of their premises at 2050 East 38th Street, red, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be referred to the Police Dep~rtment. Motion carried. Communications from J. D. Sherer & Son and General Electric Company, requesting permdts to haul refuse upon and along the public streets of the city of Vernon, were read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the communications be filed and the permits.granted. Motion carried. ItwQS moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that all bids be rejected for the furnishing of land for water purposes. Motion carried. At this time N. McMenamin requested that bid be with- drawn for the furnishing of land for water well site. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the request be granted. Motion carried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded'by Peralta, that the City Clerk be instructed to re-advertise for bids for land in the eastern portion o:fthe city of Vemon, the same asformer notices. Motion carried. 224 Communication from the Ajax Oil Rer1ning Company in reference to furnishing Diesel fuel oil was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be referred to t he Water &: Power Committee for in- vestigation and recommendation. Motion carried. Applicatien 4861: of SafewayStores Inc., for permit to construct billboaro at the southeast corner of Vernon Avenue and Alameda Street, at.an approximate cost of tlOO.OO, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that 0 the same be referred to t he Engineering and Police Departments. Motion carried. The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: ,Application 4857: of Boyle. Manufacturing Company , to wreck exIst1ng structure and construct new pattern room at 5100 Santa Fe Avenue. Approximate cost $1600.00. ,Application 4858: of Tillotson Clay Products Company, to construct br1ck kiln at 3365 Fruitland Road. ApprOXimate cost $2500.00. Application 4859: . of California Cotton Oil Company, for per- m~ ~o cons~ruc~ seed storage building at 2301 East 52nd Street. Approximate cost $3000.00. Application 4860: of Hall-Scott Motor Company, for permit to construct sign on top' Of 'building at 5041 Santa Fe Avenue. Approximate cost $170.00. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. It was moved by Durb!.n, seconde this meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
