CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF'VERNON,

Councilmen present: Furlong, Durbin, Peralta
Councilmen absent: Leonis, Levy
The meeting was called to oroer by the Mayor,
J. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting
be dispensed with. Motion carried.
Communica.tion from American Foundry Company,
regarding their Vernon property to be used for foundry
purposes, was read.

It was moved bi DUrbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the comri1unicatlon be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communications from Cornelius ~.. and Brown-Bevis
Equipment Company, requesting permi tsto haul refuse from
their premises along and .upon the public streets of the city
of Vernon, were read.

that the communications be filed and permits granted.
Motion carried.
Communication fromE. J. stanton Lumber Company,
regarding painting of curb in front of their premises at 2050
East 38th Street, heretofore referred to the Police Depart-
ment, was read. The Police Department recommended that per-
mit to paint curb for fifteen feet on each side of driveway
be allowed.
It was moved 'by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
communication of E. J.Stanton Lumber Company be filed
the recommendation of the Police Department be concurred

ing permit to haul plastering refuse frompe:rmises at 50th
and Soto Streets, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded'bJ Peralta~ that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
Mtifu.tes of the Water and Power Committee meetings
of June 9th and 16th, 1936, were read.
It was moved by Peralta, 'seconded by Durbin, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
At this ,1me the CittAttorney requeateclperm1ssion
of the City Council to comnnin1 cate with the Southern Pacific
Railway COmpany \Vithreference to placing safety signs on
Alameda Street upon the right of way of the Southern Pacific
Company.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,that
the City Attorney be instructed to write to t he Southern
Pacific Company for permission so to do. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk,read an offer from the
Ajax 011 &: Refining ComPanY, to furnish .011 to the city for a
perlodof one year, the price quoted being less than the
price quoted 11'1 the advertisement for bids - the prlee of
same being approved by the Water and Power Committee.
It was moved bY' Durbin, seconded. by Peralta, that
the City Council accept the offer of Ajax Oil &: RefiDing
Company_ Motion carried.
At 'this time the headS of the various departments
of the City submitted their budgets ,for the ensuing year.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the budgets be approved tentatively and referred to the
Finance Committee. Motion carried.
At this time the auditor of theW_tel' and Power
Department informed the City, Council that the Gilbert
Chocolate Company now in the 'hands ,of the Board of Trade,
owed the city the sum of $58.72; that the plant was closed
down; and stated that a request was made by the creditors
